HWY 9[edit]

I grew up in the southeast of Saratoga (1964 - 1977) & know HWY 9 like the back of my hand. I explored the east & west sides of the range as it was bisected by HWY 17 on horseback, bipedal locomotion but mainly on a 200cc & a 400cc Yamaha Enduro motorcycles. I have Locational Dyslexia & can get lost backing out of my driveway, which offers strong evidence of my direct descent of the Mosaic line & DNA (well, except he never existed.Picky, picky, picky.). Long before civilian GPS or mobile phones, after getting frightfully lost, with the Sun quickly & my gasoline supply getting uncomfortably low, I finally hit a logging road heading east & barely made it back to lovely (if a bit too quaint). After that, I purchased a compass, Gerry can & a Federal map. I spent many hours exploring Angel's Camp (which you should search for In Wiki) & environs with a metal detector. I found a few garbage tips, of course surrounded by lush brambles & verdant Poison Oak. I was immune to its irritant oils due to many exposures. Many interesting bottles & containers for patent medicines & jugs from Clorox bleach, &c. I also detected old, square head iron nails, a few horseshoes, steel cookware & beautiful verdigris enhanced cartridge cases, mostly .30-.30, various .22 cases. My prize was nearly $30 in a clump of various denominations of coins dating from the 1880's to 1910. I should get them appraised 1 of these days. My favorite discovery was what appeared to be an undertaker's wares storage. My favorite among the disintegrating remains of 5 - 6 coffins, my favorite was 1 with a small placard made from the local granite bearing the word "

HWY 9[edit]

...bearing the single word, "BABY." I now regret removing the plaque. I have probably nearly 200 photos of Angel's Camp & some of the truly breathtaking vistas 1 can only see out in the Boonies. I must go, but I just can't leave without briefly mentioning some of the spectacular Bike action available on the logging roads, &c. Taking 17/101 north, take the 1st left off the highway (there's a quarry, so there's always a bunch of gravel, so take care). Follow the paved road & take the 2nd logging road heading NW for about 3 miles. There's a slope that's about 33 degrees & about 80' long. On my 200cc bike, I'd get up to 30mph. You'll grab some serious air, Dude. On my 400cc bike I'd get up to 45mph, burping the throttle at the top of the slope. Of course you'll land on a fair amount of gravel on the unpaved landing area. Well, 400cc's, a 17 year old brain & testosterone (should be a controlled substance) lead me to a rather fair amount of iffy decisions. 1 fine Spring morning, I was heading out to check an older 3 bedroom house we

were

edroom house some friends & I were thinking of renting. As I was heading along, as I was passing the Jump Road, I decided to move it up to 60mph
