Notability[edit]

Reading the PROD rationale I don't disagree with Actualcpscm's assessment of the given sources. However, while Folk is not my area of interest or familiarity, intuitively I feel the subject is a venue which was the nexus of a developing culture, perhaps like the Colony Room or Deux Magots. There are sources, such as this, quoting Hamish Henderson, and various passing mentions in memoirs, but more is probably needed, so I am leaving the PROD in place for just now. In my WP:BEFORE, I did find some mentions of this pub in other sources not listed here. None of them constituted significant coverage in a reliable source; like the one you provided, they often listed Sandy Bell's as an example of something, which substantiates your intuition that this place was at some point important for a certain subculture. We'll see if anyone can come up with a rationale and set of appropriate sources to substantiate notability :) Actualcpscm (talk) 08:02, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @AllyD and @Actualcpscm. I don't normally comment on talk pages but I saw all this today in passing - apologies if I'm doing it wrong. I've left a comment on the Hamish Henderson 'talk' page about merging Sandy Bells with it, but in case the idea of deleting this page is still active I thought I should comment here too. I strongly oppose deleting this page.

Just in terms of major reliable sources for notability, a couple I can quickly direct you to are:

1) Scotland’s Music with Phil Cunningham, Pride and Passion, BBC4 (TV programme from BBC with a significant segment about the pub)

2) Munro, Ailie. 1996. The Democratic Muse: Folk Music revival in Scotland (Monograph by academic researcher with several paragraphs specifically about the pub)

I only stopped by here for a quick minute and don't have time to edit the page myself just now, but would emphasise that just because the page is small at the moment, in content and sources, doesn't mean it represents something that isn't notable - it just needs us collectively to add more encyclopedic information using sources like those I mention. I'm really not that familiar with editing wikipedia, but I think there's a banner for 'this article is a stub' or similar to encourage improving the page - perhaps that would be more appropriate here than removing it?
