Entrance Music[edit]

Now I could be wrong, but isn't Samoa Joe's entrance music an instrumental version of Simon Says by Pharoahe Monch which contains an uncleared sample of Akira Infukube's Godzilla Orchestral?

Tone E Atlas

The entrance is a version of "Godzilla comes ashore"!!!!!! NOT THE GODZILLA MARCH!!!!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbWnyMDfq-Y you may listen to it clicking this link. Also by Akira Ifukube - but again it is NOT the *Godzilla march* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yk-axdCNz-w but *Gojira comes ashore* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbWnyMDfq-Y

thank you and good night. btw Samoa Joe is the best!!!!!!!!! 77.3.128.228 (talk) 04:46, 24 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Chimeraplex?[edit]

How often has Samoa Joe used the Chimeraplex outside of japan? I seen the clips on his website and most of his TNA career, and i can't recall him using it in the USA...

he used it to win his Frontier Wrestling Alliance match in england against The Zebra Kid --- Paulley 19:40, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
He's hit a third or two thirds of it several times in ROH, I clearly remember him doing so during Joe vs. Punk II Tromboneguy0186 02:13, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image removal[edit]

I wonder why the image was removed as it sets an important event that he was the CHAMPION so im baffled by it was removed. It also marks a milestone in his career of ROH so any explaination on why it was removed would be helpful.

The image was removed because it no longer exist on wikipedia... the image properly was in breech of copyright thus it was deleted... hope that helps --- Paulley

Cleanup[edit]

Ok, I could be wrong, but wouldn't it be easier to cleanup the TNA section of Joe's article by seperating it into each year? NasDestiny 04:08, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

lol well ok its in two sections now... still looks like a jumble of week by week... infact it looks like two jumbles of week by week --- Paulley

Alright, well in that case I'll try to start cleaning it up, by condensing or eliminating stuff. NasDestiny 16:47, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Personal life[edit]

I've been cleaning up the TNA section of the article, and it occured to me that there should be a personal section of the article. We can include that Joe is a dancer, as well as a mortgage dealer.NasDestiny 05:01, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Match of the year[edit]

Where was this match(Kenta Kobashi) declared match of the year. If you're saying PWI, I gotta a magazine in my hand that says otherwise. The 2005 match of the year was kurt angle vs shawn michaels at wrestlemania, joe's match with Kobashi got just a blip on that poll.

If someone feels that runner thing is wrong could you please explain why you removed it, otherwise I'm changing it back to runner match.

The Match of the year was declared by the wrestling observer newsletter, not PWI. Also, what's the deal with it saying Angle vs. Joe II in Turning Point got 5 stars? I've got the newsletter and it doesn't say that.

Question[edit]

Does anybody know why Joes Choke hold is named afer a kind of rock???

Because it sounds cool? -- The Hybrid 03:52, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I know this is a stretch, but it may be a reference to the Rose Atoll in American Samoa. The atoll is comprised primarily of coquina. dil 13:14, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Funny I always thought it was spelled "Kokina" and was a bit of a tribute to Yokozuna who wrestled as "Kokina Maximus" before joining the WWF. MPJ-DK 11:31, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's spelled Coquina on his profile page at the TNA website. I would understand "Kokina" if Rodney had ever used a similar submission hold, but (as far as I can recall) he was always a power-move wrestler. It could also be that "Kokina" is just a phonetic transliteration of the same word. dil 18:24, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reference issue[edit]

From a previous hidden comment in the "personal life" section [1], I fixed a reference from an intervew by TNAwrestling.com which supported the claim he had worked as a morgage broker (see: [2]), however the article previously claimed this had occured on the May 13, 2006 edition of Impact! and the link provided is from an interview dated from September 2005. The only other interview provided, dated from January 2006, makes no mention of the claim or the Impact! episode. MadMax 12:37, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tryout match with the WWF[edit]

He had a try-out match for the wwe on an episode of wwf jakked agianst essa rios.

According to imdb.com ([3]), Samoa Joe was on WWF Jakked in 1999 although there's nothing to indicate weither it was a tryout match or that he faced Essa Rios (although several fansites support this [4]/[5], none are considered reliable sources). MadMax 20:28, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Essa Rios name wasn't debuted until early 2000 and being as Samoa Joe's first match was in December 99 (according to our article) so IMDB are plain wrong. ŞůṜīΣĻ¹98¹Speak 20:40, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The year was 2001 (February 26th to be precise) as supported by the history of WWE and yes Samoa Joe did face Essa Rios on Jakked, but to claim it was a "try out match" is reading something into it we don't know - Christopher Daniels and Low Ki both did stints on Jakked & Heat as jobbers without it being "try outs". If necessary note that he did have a single match, note the date (& airdate 3.3.2001) if need be and leave it at that if it's mentioned at all MPJ-DK 23:51, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I consider this a reliable source on that it happened: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igb7VdO_FEI. –– Lid(Talk) 02:22, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can't put YouTube as a reliable source - besides the fact that the match happened is not in question, that's confirmable several places. But the statement that it was a "try out" match is not supported anywhere that I know off. MPJ-DK 06:23, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I just watched Straight Shooting with Samoa Joe to see Joe says, and judging by his implications it wasn't a try out match and was just thrown together in that Rios needed an opponent for a Jakked match which Joe was volunteered to. –– Lid(Talk) 09:21, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

External links[edit]

The link to The White Online is a independent student newspaper, however if this is an inappropriate link similar to a fansite please feel free to remove it. Also, the official website was not removed from the article and was instead moved to the infobox. MadMax 20:41, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ROH is not an officially recognized World title by PWI[edit]

I removed the part where it is because the citation, the ROH results page, only says that Joe beat the Zebra Kid, not that the match led PWI to officially recognize the belt as a World title. If you need further proof that the ROH World title is not officially recognized by PWI, check out the article World Heavyweight Championship. "Joe is best known for his achievements in Ring of Honor"[edit]

There is no way that Joe's time in ROH is more known to more people than his time in TNA. TNA is on national television with millions of viewers. Surely this should be reworked. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.240.14.247 (talk) 21:10, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I would agree that he is best known from ROH. No one knew of him until his classic with low ki. He is a ROH bred wrestler and mostly recognized from his almost 2 year reign as ROH champion and his one hour four star match with CM Punk. Even John Cena stole "The Champ is here" from Joe's ROH title reign catch phrase. As far as TNA goes, "millions" of people is not correct, A million is more accurate and TNA has a tv deal yes but a huge fan following? Absolutely not. Not to mention their utilization of Joe hasn't been all that great.

I believe Joe is more known for TNA by occasional fans but hardcore fans know he is more known for being in ROH. Also TNA reaches more than a Million. They've had a rating of 1.7 at one point which is in the Millions of estimated people watching iMPACT!.--WillC (talk) 01:34, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

1.7 at one point, i see, but that is not the average at all. it is consistantly at about 1.0-1.2 and only 20,000 buys on ppv. And occasional fans don't watch TNA either, TNA has done nothing in 6 years to get a sole fan base outside of just wrestling fans. and yes it is just slightly over a million viewers. it is not 2 million or more (which would be multiple millions). As an example, even though CM Punk accomplished more in ROH than he has in WWE I would certainly say he is more recognized as a WWE wrestler as opposed to an ROH wrestler because of WWE's mainstream rep. However in the case of samoa joe, TNA just doesn't have that mainstream fan base. For that matter, they never will... until they remove the suck from their programing.

Actually, Samoa Joe vs. CM Punk II for the ROH World Title that went to a one hour draw was a 5 star rated match by Meltzer. Why isn't that listed in his accomplishments? And Punk doesn't have it in his accomplishments either. Shenanigans! TonyFreakinAlmeida (talk) 14:47, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

IWA[edit]

I have a question about the IWA section. I think that is a irrelevant section, Joe had only one match, I think that the section must be erased. Joe had a lot of matches in other promotions, like PWG, but aren't in the article. Why this match at IWA is so important?--HHH Pedrigree (talk) 01:04, 25 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, he's had many more important matches in places like PWG, Great Britain, Mexico and Germany that aren't in the article. I'd have no problem with it being removed.Ribbon Salminen (talk) 01:37, 25 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
In that case, we can create a new section called "Independent circuit" or "Other promotions", including PWG, Mexico... and IWA.--HHH Pedrigree (talk) 14:42, 25 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I went and threw something quick together about PWG, IWA:MS, Mexico and Europe and also included the IWA bit in it. I think TNA, ROH and Japan are by far the three things he's best known for, but eveything else can be summarized in this section.Ribbon Salminen (talk) 16:20, 25 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The preface to the "Entrance themes" lines in "In wrestling" section talks about the Godzilla march intro in Samoa Joe's themes. It reads as follows:

    • Samoa Joe's various entrance themes in the past were typically customized to start with the "Godzilla March Theme" horn riff, signifying Joe's presence while allowing for different tracks over the years. TNA would adopt a variation of this tradition, starting their custom themes for Joe with a similar riff Except For WWE.

The problem comes in the latter sentence about the variation of the tradition, in which the sentence is abruptly cut into with "Except For WWE". Aside from this being bad grammar, it is also false, as WWE has its own intro riff for Joe which is roughly similar to the Godzilla intro in a different way than TNA's is—the cadence is different but it is a horn riff with an ominous tone like the original.

Therefore, I propose that section be changed to this:

    • Samoa Joe's various entrance themes in the past were typically customized to start with the "Godzilla March Theme" horn riff, signifying Joe's presence while allowing for different tracks over the years. TNA and WWE would each adopt a variation of this tradition, starting their custom themes for Joe with similar riffs.
