EB Games has the game listed with a PS3 box art. So I guess it is confirmed. It has a release date of 5/15/07. I'm going to add this release date to the front now. DEMO RELEASE

I don't really think the distribution of the demo was "botched", Volition never mentioned that they'd release the demo by demo disc in the first place. ~xenc. 16:02, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

While I agree that it wasn't THQ or Volition's fault, it was a bad release. They shipped the demo discs (meant to be a preorder bonus), but after that they had no control. It was erratic, unannounced, and actually, quite open to abuse. Toys'R'Us has sold the discs, distributed them free of charge, or made them pre-order bonuses (as they should be, but still ahead of the 24th schedule. One person has reported buying music and being given the demo, randomly. Its not how THQ intended, and if it picks up game press, it should be included in the article (much like early readings of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Not to mention that it has annoyed plenty of gamers who pre-ordered elsewhere, or live outside the US. I'm going to wait for some media confirmation on the facts, as right now all the evidence on the web are original research, or of dubious quality (such as forum posts). There are some pics of the demo disks, some are on sale on ebay, and there are plenty of people vouching that they have a demo. State Motto

I recently bought some VGA wires and hooked up my 360 to my computer monitor, looks really nice in high definition. Anyways, because of this, I was able to zoom into the license plate of a car and read the state motto. Should the state motto be added to the trivia section?

Motto and Ending

I cannot see anything wrong with the motto being in the trivia, so long as it has some sort of reference that is notable. For instance, if it just says "Home of Freckle Bitches" (the resteraunt in game) then its pretty un-notable.

If it has some reference to something though, just as the "Newman" that is the postal-car is in reference to Seinfeld's Newman was, then it is worth it.

Now to the second half. The ending of the game has caused considerable controversy among gamers: the forums at the game's website are loaded with "What was up with the ending" - style threads. I think we should note on Wikipedia the amount of controversy the cliffhanger has generated. Anyone seconding that?

I personally believe that the controversy and confusion of the ending should allow a section of theories of the ending. I know personally I was left asking who was for and against me. The voice actor for the main character?

Though the main character does not have many lines in the game he does talk sometimes. I can't find anywhere who does his lines. IMDB.com does not list him. Anyone an idea? He, among other things, says something like "yeah, if you want hepatitis" and at the end of the game he says "can you hurry up, i want to go to Freckles Bitches".

By the way, it might that there are several because at the beginning of the game you can choose your race. My player talks like an latino but mybe i'm imagining that because he looks like one. Just curious and maybe interesting news for the frontpage of this article.


There are four when the main character speaks. One for each of the gang storylines, and one in the final cutscene. The four are

"Hope you don't mind hepatitis."(when Johnny Gat mentions having sex with Tanya, who runs a whorehouse; VK storyline) "I got run over by a motherfucking truck, what d'you think?!"(when asked by Julius over the phone if he is alright; Rollerz storyline) "Bullshit, those are last year's fall collection!"(when Luz, Angelo's woman, pulls out a pair of shoes and claims they're "new"; Los Carnales storyline) "Can you speed this shit up? I want to go to Freckle Bitch's."(after listening to a somewhat..."philosophical" speech aboard Alderman Hughes' yacht; Final cutscene)

In the beginning, you can choose whether your character is African-American, Latino, Caucasian, or Asian. I have played as all four in the game, and I can assure you it's 4 very different voices for each race. I have heard rumors that each voice for the main character was provided by a member of the developing team, but I'm not sure. I've watched a Behind the Scenes video, and they didn't even touch on it. But yes, I can assure you it's 4 different actors. I knew who most of the voice actors/actresses were in the game(Tanya Winters, Julius Little, Benjamin King, Troy, Johnny Gat), but I couldn't recognize any of the voice actors for the main character, so it's probably someone very small time, like the voice actor for Master Chief in the Halo series.--Wild One 04:32, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

Regarding the trivia section

Just how solid is the "Nordberg" reference? Isn't it rather far-fetched to find O. J. Simpson's character in Naked Gun as a reference? What sort of meaning does that have for the actual vehicle in the game? In my opinion, none at all. Ultor was in a Volition game, so its a more obvious reference.

- I don't understand how anyone can consider the backwards 'ambulance' writing to be unusual - it's designed that way (in real life) to be seen correctly in rear-view mirrors. Unless there's something i'm missing, this should probably be removed.

It's strange, David Carrodine has only ever acted in one videogame in his whole career, Saints Row. He shot to fame again after playing Bill in Kill Bill, and his characters name in Saints Row is William (or Bill, for short) JayKeaton 04:45, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Suggestion: Move soundtrack details to seperate page

The issue of summarizing the sound tracks vs providing the full playlist is cluttering the page right now. I look at what was done for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City soundtrack, and I think that there's enough with SR to make a SR soundtrack page more approrpriate as to declutter the main page. --Masem 16:23, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

Chinatown crashes

Hey, does anybody else get a weird crash while entering chinatown (or anywhere near it)

If so, it may be worth mentioning. As it affects about 2/3 of the southern island.

Stilwater Location

What is the basis for saying that Stilwater is based on Detroit or Chicago? All of the interestate numbers end with 95, which would put it on the east coast.

THQ uses "Gateway to the Rust Belt", which specifically goes from Chicago to NYC, but includes Detroit, Cleveland, and Pittsburg (big steel cities hit on hard times). The numerous gangs as well as the strong music scene is mostly indicative of Detroit. The fact the city has an El (elevated train) could put it in Chicago or NYC. Since it's obviously fictional, it's an aggolmeration of any of these cities. --Masem 05:39, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

Sentence needs reformulating

I ran across the following sentence in the section "Plot:"

The game apparently ends when the player receives a call from Julius, who implies he will be corrupt cops who were waiting for the gang wars to end before they made their move on the Saints.

Similarity to Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

Although I know that this topic is perfectly relevent, I'm not sure its right that its the biggest section in the article, anyone else think it should be stripped down?

I agree. I think that section lead should be nixed, with all that section becoming "Gameplay" and cutting that down when appropriate (remember for a GA/FA we need to cite everything, I don't wanna be the one to do that...). There should be a line in the gameplay with citation that says the game plays very much like GTA, and if further similarities are needed, add a section to the Reception part. --Masem 15:23, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

That's not so bad, having the characters AND the actors playing them, that should avoid the non-notability charge. Many games nowadays make quite a big thing of having well known actors playing voice parts, or even further back in the days of FMV playing live action parts. I'm fairly certain it's a reference to the neighborhood. Julius talks about how "the Row is having serious problems" or "the Row needs to be cleaned up". Priorities

Okay, what's on our list of priorities for sprucing up this article? Are we sourcing what's here or using TNT? I also see that it needs a legacy section for its later influence (mainly, the rest of the series). Are there any unused sources for the development section? Are there any useful and unused print sources I can dig up, in specific? czar ♔ 15:36, 26 January 2014 (UTC)

Okay, let me try and get some points down. This is a checklist for the both of us.

• I've done an overhaul on the Gameplay section, but it's still very light on citations. It'd be good to support those statements with other reviews. The big problem is that, as we go through Metacritic's collated reviews, a lot of them have since 404'd. Keep in mind this game came out at the beginning of (now) last gen, so a lot of those older reviews have gone under. Of the ones we have left, many aren't considered RS, which could have trouble at a GAN. If we could get a handful of extra sources through here it'd be great. I'll trawl through some previews, and I'm sure there's some good info that came out of E3 2005 and beyond. I also did cull out a couple of little bits here and there that I'll try and work back in - namely the Respect boost players get by wearing purple clothes. Also, even prior to my rewrite, there's no information in the article about the multiplayer. It's critically important we have a multiplayer paragraph, especially given the fact that Saints Row's multiplayer was unprecedented for the genre and was well received.
• Plot seems A-OK to me.
• Yes, there are unused sources for the development section. If you have a look, the content is sourced from GameSpy's dev diaries, which are wonderful sources. There are more diaries with good info. Also when I started on this section I tried writing about the Xbox 360's hardware but my brain went to mush every time. Diary 2 has some great developer insight into working with the hardware that I just couldn't work into the article. One thing I will do is go through a customised Google search for more info later on when I have time. At a quick glance there's still some good content out there. I haven't got any print mediums on hand for this game.
• I agree on a Legacy section. Also, using what little reviews we have left, we'll need to build Reception up a lot. I'll have to see if we have enough to need to add Template:Video game reviews.
• I need to have a look for information about the game's development troubles. I think it was meant to be a 360 launch title but got pushed back. Also we need more prose on the PS3 port that got canned in favour of SR2. CR4ZE (t) 16:06, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
