It may not be worthy of mention (and moreover, finding documentation might be difficult), but my recollection is that SWA started as a sort of tongue-in-cheek youth cult and "sensitive singer-songwriter" music parody. This was in keeping with the generalized distrust and/or hatred of hippies (especially Charles Manson) frequently represented in Raymond Pettibon's artwork for Black Flag.

Early 'performances' took the form of Chuck coming out with an acoustic guitar (sometimes solo, sometimes with various Black Flag fans and hangers-on) and doing a faux-"sensitive" riff about how beautiful love is and how wonderful it is to be in love, etc. The joke was that the chorus was always "Hate, Kill, Destroy" and was repeated after each of the mock singer-songwriter lines. This configuration of SWA opened for the penultimate Throbbing Gristle show in Los Angeles in 1982.Pinverarity (talk) 10:15, 9 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
