Watch for promotion[edit]

SKDK and it's members have past history of using Wikipedia as a platform to self-promote themselves. Wikipedians need to be watching for promotional tone or 'scrubbing'. --HectorMoffet (talk) 20:09, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi everyone. My name's John and I am here to disclose that I work for SKDK and would like to submit the firm's new logo, which I uploaded here. I will not edit the article directly and am seeking others' input and assistance in making updating the logo in the infobox at the top of the article. John at SKDKDigital (talk) 20:22, 11 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Has now been updated by Timtempleton – Thjarkur (talk) 13:35, 19 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

SKDK Naming[edit]

Hi everyone. The firm is now called SKDK, no longer SKDKnickerbocker. The change took place within the last month. In addition to the firm's new logo, which uses "SKDK", some sources are starting to use the new name. I am asking if editors will consider updating portions of the article to reflect the "SKDK" name. Specifically, I'm looking at the name in the introduction, above the infobox, in the last paragraph of the History, and Political consulting and communications sections. Here is an example of how The Atlantic has recently referred to the company. I added the bold emphasis.

History[edit]

Hi everyone. I have updates for History that I would like editors to consider adding to the live article.

Draft highlights:

  • Clarifies SKDK worked on the "presidential" campaigns for Barack Obama and Joe Biden
  • Shortens list of political clients
  • Changes "birth control advocate" to "reproductive health advocate" to match how Planned Parenthood is described in its Wikipedia article
  • Adds two sentences about support for gay marriage rights
  • Adds two sentences about work to help release political prisoner Alan Gross
  • Adds a sentence about the formation of the Time's Up Legal Defense Fund
  • Adds a sentence about representing Christine Blasey Ford
  • Streamlines paragraph about Sloane & Company acquisition
  • Adds a sentence about working with frontline healthcare providers and government whistleblower Rick Bright

I've drafted with proper sourcing, below:

History: The firm was formed in 2004 through the merger of Squier Knapp Dunn Communications and Knickerbocker Consulting. They formalized the merger in 2010, taking the name SKDKnickerbocker.[1]

SKDK's political clients have included the presidential campaigns of Barack Obama and Joe Biden,[2] as well as the campaigns of Andrew Cuomo, Michael Bloomberg, Joe Donnelly,[3] Josh Gottheimer,[4] and Christine Quinn among others.[5][6][7][8] The firm has also worked for a number of women's rights advocates and reproductive health advocates including Planned Parenthood,[9] lawyer and activist Sandra Fluke,[10] the Center for Reproductive Rights, and the Time's Up Legal Defense Fund.[11]

SKDK supported gay marriage rights in the U.S. In 2011 SKDK was hired by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to lead the public campaign to build support for the state's legalization of gay marriage.[12] In 2014 SKDK lead the communications war room for the Human Rights Council during two landmark Supreme Court decisions affirming the right to marriage for gay couples.[13]

In 2014 SKDK Partner Jill Zuckman led the pro-bono public relations campaign that led to the Cuban government releasing American political prisoner Alan Gross. The release led to an improvement in U.S.-Cuba relations.[14]

In October 2015, the firm was acquired by The Stagwell Group, of which Mark Penn is the principal, for an estimated $75 million.[15][16]

In 2018 SKDK Partner Hilary Rosen co-founded the Time's Up Legal Defense Fund.[17] The firm also represented Christine Blasey Ford during the Senate confirmation hearings for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.[18]

In February 2020, the firm acquired Sloane & Co. from MDC Partners, a move that expanded the firm's financial services capabilities, and client base in the financial sector.[19]

During the coronavirus pandemic the firm worked for a number of frontline healthcare providers, including Memorial Sloan Kettering hospital,[20] as well as government whistleblower Rick Bright, director of the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority. [21]

The firm's current and former public affairs clients include American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Under Armour, The Walt Disney Company, NAACP,[22] General Electric, AT&T, Time Warner, Pratt & Whitney, Kaplan University, TransCanada Corporation (which developed the Keystone XL pipeline), Oracle Corporation, Google, PepsiCo, Microsoft, Association of American Railroads, the Rockefeller Foundation, Girls Who Code, NoVo Foundation, the Human Rights Campaign, New American Leaders, the Obama Presidential Library, Paul Weiss Rifkind,[23] General Mills,[24] Nestle, Kellogg, Viacom, Students First,[25] Families for Excellent Schools,[26] Kaplan University,[27] Amazon,[28] and Pfizer.[29]

The above account was created on the same day it approved this edit request. It is very clearly a Wikipedia:Single-purpose account/sockpuppet. John at SKDKDigital, I will be undoing portions of the above additions, which should not have been approved. WP:NOT discusses many of the issues here: articles are not to contain indiscriminate lists of clients, for one. Given that it is likely that Treekeeper10473 is affiliated with SKDK, I want to remind you of what I believe you are already aware of, namely, that you or any SKDK associate are very strongly discouraged from making major edits to this article.
In cases where edit requests go unanswered for long periods of time, it can be helpful to reach out to recently active editors on the page and see if they are willing to approve the edits for you. WhinyTheYounger (WtY)(talk, contribs) 15:11, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
