While my formatting is a bit sloppy, I'm going to try and continue improving this article as a film by such a major director needs a much more in depth article. --Allseeingi 21:57, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Film set in 1916?[edit]

There's nothing in the film that indicates this. The references to the battle of the Marne indicate otherwise. If I missed something that said it was 1916, please say so and we can reinstate the references I removed.--Mantanmoreland 19:17, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think the setting of the film is slightly confused, there are indications that it is set during the First World War, but some aspects of the setting are more consistent with the Irish War of Independence which only broke out in early 1919. PatGallacher (talk) 15:23, 10 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Having viewed the film on TV (pre-2000), respectfully I think it could have been conceivably set in 1916 as the First Battle of the Marne was in 1914, and the Easter Rising was followed by a military crackdown (in which mere suspects were rounded up) that increased pro-Republican support in Ireland before WWI ended.Cloptonson (talk) 19:30, 24 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

In 1971 he rejected "Ghandi" offered to him by Robert Bolt

Eddie Fowlie who had written his own treatment of it, gave him Richard Hough`s Book "Captain Bigh and Mr. Christian" Paid by Warner Brothers they went into the South Pacific in 1973 Eddie Fowley,p32/letter to david Lean 14 August 1995 "The four of us"

In May 1977 he contcacted Robert Bolt to work on the project " I`m so exited by our project. We mustn`t argue too much about this one or it will get cut-and dried and conscious.
