Scope[edit]

Is this supposed to be on the topic of monastic rules? Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 12:35, 3 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like that is the intended topic. The article requires a description, a clear definition of the term & its scope of applicability. The lead opening para lacks a topic sentence, and the article needs a description parameter. I hesitate to edit it, since I came here looking for information, not intending to impart it. My understanding (for which I have only personal experience, no refs) is that a Rule of Life is a set of spiritual commitments, practices and rules by which anyone may order their daily life, whether they live in a monastic community or not, and whether or not they belong to a religious order. That said, the term is primarily used by members of a catholic [lower-case] monastic order, or adherents of one who wish to commit to similar practices in their daily life. A Buddhist monk (say) may have what an outsider might call a rule of life, but would probably not use the term themselves. D Anthony Patriarche (talk) 21:01, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
