Trail/park name[edit]

Missouri Rock Island Trail Inc. is an organization formed to support the idea of and the development of the park,[1] but I've seen nothing to date that tells me that the name of the park itself is "Missouri Rock Island Trail State Park". I don't believe it proper to project the organization's name onto the park in this article. In fact, now that the section from Windsor to Pleasant Hill has been officially opened it seems to be being presented as The Rock Island Spur of Katy Trail State Park[2] rather than a standalone new park. That makes sense, and if that is really the case then this article needs to be reworked to reflect that new reality. I'm going to change the bolded name in the intro paragraph. --Kbh3rdtalk 20:22, 27 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

So contrary to what was seen in the press prior to the opening of the new 47-mile trail, it looks like that new stretch from Windsor to Pleasant Hill is called the Rock Island Spur of Katy Trail State Park, and the future trail from Windsor to Beaufort will be called Rock Island Trail State Park.[3][4] That makes sense, but whether it makes sense or not, this article will need to be renamed if that holds up to scrutiny.
It would also make sense, in my opinion, to make the 47-mile spur on RI right-of-way part of the new Rock Island State Park when it is created (but they very seldom ask for my opinion in these matters). --Kbh3rdtalk 16:26, 16 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
So this was originally and officially called Rock Island Trail State Park. There was an official web page open for a couple of years, an official logo, the logo was installed at trailheads & on signs etc. Then just a few days before the ribbon cutting for the new trail, the Governor made an abrupt decision to rename it as the "Rock Island Spur". They literally ripped down the brand new signs that had recently been installed and slapped up some quickly-produced paper copies with the new name in their place.
It might make sense to change the name of this article to simply "Rock Island Trail (Missouri)" or similar and then have redirects for both "Rock Island Trail State Park" and "Rock Island Spur of Katy Trail State Park" to go to that article.
A slight re-name would allow more discussion of the Jackson County portion of the trail, about 18 miles, currently under constructions, which will (it is hoped!) eventually connect seamlessly to the state park portion.
Here is a link to archive.org version of the original Rock Island Trail State Park web page: https://web.archive.org/web/20160623234117/https://mostateparks.com/park/rock-island-trail-state-park It looks like it appeared in that form from 2011 through late 2016. Coordinates[edit]

I've added the trail heads, but I think a new column labeled coordinates should be added, similar to the Katy Trail page. Can someone help me out? RunningGrant (talk) 07:08, 18 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
