Disambiguation Page proposal[edit]

Currently, this page is a redirect to Robert Gascoyne-Cecil, 3rd Marquess of Salisbury.

I think it should be a disambiguation page, because readers are more likely to use the search term "Robert Salisbury" to look for at least two other people on Wikipedia more than they will for the third marquess.

Robert Gascoyne-Cecil, 7th Marquess of Salisbury uses the pen-name "Robert Salisbury" in his articles for both The Spectator and the Centre for Policy Studies. See here and here . Anyone looking for the wikipedia entry on the columnist by his pen-name will be surprised to end up in an article about the Victorian PM.

Similarly, people looking for Robert Salisbury (educationalist) are likely to use "Robert Salisbury" as a search term.

I cannot find any instances online where the third marquess is referred to by the name "Robert Salisbury". It is of course possible but seems very unlikely that anyone would use the search term "Robert Salisbury" to find the Wikipedia article on the him; tbey are much more likely to search for Lord Salisbury. (However the information in the current redirect should be preserved, and the hat note in the article on the educationalist does this.)

All this means that the third marquess cannot or should not be the primary topic of this page, as defined in WP:PRIMARYTOPIC.

In the past I have tried to establish a redirect to the educationalist, being very careful to follow the instructions in WP:DISAMBIG, WP:DETERMINEPRIMARY and WP:ONEOTHER, but each time my efforts have been reverted, most recently with the reason that "The Marquess has been the primary redirect since 2004". Hi @Hallucegenia: That seems reasonable. When I looked at it originally, I was comparing him to the educationist and quick look made the Marquess look better, but obviously wrong. Crack on. scope_creep^Talk 20:39, 31 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
