Thomas' intention to board the General Sherman[edit]

The current article states that Thomas took a job as an interpreter for the General Sherman crew. It then states that Thomas persuades the crew to sail to Pyongyang to establish trade, even though it was illegal. Then the article goes on to say that his personal intention was to spread the gospel. Up until 15th January 2012, the article simply states the differences in motivation for the crew and Rev Thomas for going to Korea, but in 16th January 2012, there was an edit so that the crew was persuaded by Thomas. There are no in article citations in the article, making it very difficult to find which piece of information comes from which source. Is it possible to find a clarification whether the crew had originally intended to go to Korea before meeting Thomas? Other articles about the SS General Sherman in general seem to suggest W.B. Preston the owner had wanted to open trade. IcesundaeUK (talk) 14:58, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
