Jimmy was not first

looks like jimmy is bitter Rihanna IS the first from brabados to offical received a grammy look at the grammy list Jimmy Senya Haynes wasn't in Steel Pulse he produced and arranged the album Babylon The Bandit but look on the grammy official website [[1]] Record Of The Year is Award to the Artist and to the Producer(s), Recording Engineer(s) and/or Mixer(s), if other than the artist. BUT!!!! best reggae album is for band only

it says on the website http://www.grammy.com on the nomties the band unlike record of the year where all the producers singers songwriters are listed on in the nomtions, he said so himself "My name is not the name that actually won the Grammy in terms of the artist's name Steel Pulse" which is the bands name people in that band he wasn't in the band he produced and arranged THAT ALBUM ONLY as he didn't show his award if he won he would've had one he was never given one otherwise he would've been pictured with it which he didn't he just showed the album. look at the grammy list that year [[2]] this link is from the offical grammy website site he wasn't listed as a winner in the grammy winner part so he likes to think he got it as he helped produce the album but he never official recieved one his name wasn't listed as been an artist he arranged and produced it only in that CATEGORY artist only received one anyone esle didn't received one look!!!!!!!!!! http://www.grammy.com/GRAMMY_Awards/Winners/Results.aspx?title=&winner=&year=1986&genreID=0&hp=1. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Veggiegirl (talkcontribs) 12:40, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Hurricane by Rupee feat. Rihanna

Hello,

I am a new member of Wikipedia. Anyway, I just wanted make a suggestion for the 'Guest Appearances' section of her Discography. Does the song by the rapper Rupee, called 'Hurricane', count? It features Rihanna's vocals and the lyrics mention Barbados and Rihanna herself. 71.116.173.110 (talk) 23:11, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Tours

A part of which tour are Rihanna's last concerts in Central Europe? Tallinn a few days ago, Warsaw yesterday? Because they don't seem to match any of the ones written on the main page. She was in this region promoting her new album quite some time ago (for instance on Krakow's Coke Fesitval) and these where clearly marked, as part of the tour. Not these though. Anyone now what tour it is? Or just some individual concerts? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.205.157.186 (talk) 10:46, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

New Album

Rihanna is going back into the studio to record her 4th album in winter (USA) and will release her 4th album sometime in 2008 and it will simply be titled Rihanna.

Edits

This article was extremely biased, and did not read as an encyclopedia article. I ended up removing a few paragraphs, as they offered no facts and simply praised the artist. The facts that I left in are confirmed, and I tried to keep it impartial.

I also removed the tag requesting the article to be cleaned up and made to be a higher standard of quality. The article has less content, but at least its an NPOV.

Ok..just so it is cleared up...we are not called "Barbadians." I am from Barbados and that is not out title. We are known as "Bajans" [Bay-jans] Thank you

The first sentence of the article states that Rihanna is a lip-syncer. This may be true but looks like POV: it make it seem like she has no musical ability. Clearly she can sing, and she also has writing credits. I will change this.80.189.195.142 02:52, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

R&B

Sorry, but why is Rihanna categorized asan R&B singer? What are you people smoking? Her songs are bigger hits on the Pop 100 chart than they are on the Hot 100...Also, she hasn't even had big chart entries on the R&B chart. Just because a singer is black doesn't automatically make them an R&B singer, and the same for white artists not always being pop singers...Also, none of her singes after 'Pon' have been anything but pure pop...with a touch of dancehall. 'Unfaithful' sounds like an exact carbon copy of Britney Spear's 'Everytime,' which is about as pop as you can get. If she was an R&B artist, also, then how come chr/pop stations are the ones playing her - while urban and many rhythmic shut her out and do not play her nearly as much and hardly at all. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.60.74.59 (talkcontribs)

Sorry, but can you please explain to us what you think R&B and pop are? Even the pop article says that pop can be R&B. Her first CD automatically labels her music as reggae, while her second labels her music as R&B. I don't even know why you threw the racist card out there either. And the only reason I have heard of her is BECAUSE she is played so much on my favorite R&B/hip hop radio station. If you're basing your thoughts purely on her recent single Unfaithful, then I recommend you listen to both of her CDs before YOU judge, rather than accused Wiki users of doing so. Oh, and did I mention that her record label is DEF JAM? You're freaking out over nothing. She is an R&B singer. And please sign your posts. Qorzm 06:50, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

If u read the article on "pop music", it states that pop music can be anything from rock to rock etc.

In an interview with her, she states her music is a blend of Hip Hop, R&B and Reggae. You can find the interview at http://soundslam.com/articles/interviews/interviews.php?interviews=in050802rihann 76.48.63.166 21:30, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

You can mention that in the article but not list it as an official genre. You need to source you genres anyway. You can't just say "she sounds more like pop, not R&B"if rolling stone or Allmusic or something say she's pop, you can put it there. Xanthic-Ztk (talk) 09:10, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

Pon de Replay

It looks to me like either a contraction of "put it on" thus "put it on the replay" or a loanword from Spanish because in Spanish pon is the informal-tú command for the verb poner "to put". "de" looks to me like a spelling of "the", or if it does come from Spanish probably "de" which can mean "of, from" --Revolución (talk) 22:00, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

Pon = Upon; usage is closer to "on". Guettarda 14:42, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

She might be from Barbados, but her name is of Arabic origins. I was wondering if it's worth adding it to the article? Omernos 13:41, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

I'd say not, unless there's some significance to it (e.g., if she has a Lebanese grandparent or something). Failing that, I'd say no. Guettarda 14:05, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
Well the name Rihanna is ARABIC! it means Basil plant. Why would it fail to be mentioned? Omernos 21:43, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
My first name is Scottish. I have no Scottish connection. If I had a Wikipedia article, it would be irrelevant trivia. For that matter, are you sure that her name is Arabic and not just a spelling variant on Rianna? Guettarda 01:50, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
Yes I am absolutely sure, back when she released Pon De Replay, myself and many Arabs thought she got Arab roots of someway to be having this Name. It's up to you, I just made a suggestion. Omernos 19:11, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Rihanna (or Rehanna, Rehannah and its variants) is a very common name in the Caribbean amongst females of all races.

Yes, especially in Guyana. Makes sense, since her mother is the guyanese one and probably picked it as her middle name.
Yeah, its Guyanese...I know many Guyanese girls with this name.

A Girl Like Me Sales

I was blocked from editing a certain part of the A Girl Like Me page earlier on tonight, and would like to edit again to update the Canadian Album Chart position for this week.

I was blocked for changing sales from 640,000 to 638,099 (in the US), and just wanted to know: do all sales have to be rounded up to not be blocked? I didn't know this and I was trying to make sales more accurate.

195.93.21.73 17:18, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

No idea, but rounding (neither up nor down, just rounding) is normal and more accurate (since it will be "about" 640,000 for a while, while 638,099 will be inaccurate as soon as the next copy is sold. Guettarda 17:22, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi there. I was the one who found the picture and added it to the infobox. The reason she's playing a video game in the picture is because that's what she was doing when someone took a picture of her. There's really no other reason. Wikipedia tries to make its content usable for other people, so we can't use a promotional picture of her. As it stands, that's the only free picture available that we can use and she happens to be playing an Xbox 360. If you find another free picture that's better than this one, feel free to replace this one. ShadowHalo 08:34, 11 February 2007 (UTC

Views on Soca

(I know most people in the US may not know what soca music is, but bear with me for the time being.) There are many people in the Caribbean who, while happy for Rihanna and her success, do not like her because of some comments she supposedly made on MTV, disparaging soca music (I say supposedly since I'm not sure if this ever took place having never seen the interview in question) As the story goes, when the interviewer was asking her some questions about her Barbadian (Bajan) life, and she talked about soca being the popular local music. She said that she did not like it that much, preferring US pop music. Many in the Caribbean see her as a "sell out", using her Caribbean heritage to further her image, while all the while turning her back her culture. At a concert that she performed at in Trinidad in 2006, she was very coldly received, in large part due to this issue.

I wonder if this issue should not be included, but since I cannot verify the interview, I feel that it may only seem one sided. I'm not sure about her receptions in other Caribbean countries, and although I have never heard negative things from any Bajans I have spoken to about this, they have all told me that they had heard about the interview. Their view (which I tend to agree with, and may help put the issue in a NPOV) is that if she did make those statements, she did not say she did not like soca, just that it wasn't her preferred genre to sing in. Any views on including this? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by CyberTrini (talkcontribs) 05:37, 5 March 2007 (UTC).

  • The younger generation in Barbados mostly listen to hip-hop. Take for example the most popular youth radio station in Barbados HOTT 95.3 fm during the off-carnival season it plays mainly reggae, rap, dub, and hip hop..... Also Look at Rupee. He's another Barbadian which although he made his start in the music scene with Soca music has transfered to the hip hop scene. Barbadians are fed a steady diet of US television and the black television that comes out of the United States is all gangster rap style stuff. Which ofcourse is now taking root in Barbados as well now... CaribDigita 14:48, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

Insured legs

citing the source 11, the article says that GILLETTE insured her legs for $1,000,000. The article imposes that she herself did it. It's possible that this comment gives her a false image. I suggest that the sentence be stated in a clearer way.ññññ

Its impossible i would imagine as I doublt she has made enough money yet. She hasnt sold more than 8 million albums world wide yet (it is probably less) and ashuming she isnt a writer probably doesnt therefore make much money off every album sold. id say she`s earnt about $2.5 million if you include endorsement deals so its unlikely she would blow 1 million (40% of her money) on her legs. Realist2 18:34, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Rihanna is Pop Rock too

In Rihanna's music genres it says that she's R&B, dance-pop, pop, dancehall and reggae... what about pop-rock? Umbrella, Question Existing, Shut Up And Drive are pop-rock songs, that's even explicit in the songs' pages!!! --"

Those genres are what she primarily does. I'll admit, yeah, she's taking an edgier approach to her third album (is her musical influence from Fefe Dobson starting to show itself more? It's pretty awesome to me), but you can't really throw a genre on her list just because she has two songs pertaining to it (Question Existing doesn't really feel pop-rock to me IMO). The genres she has listed for her suit her discography, so far at least. -- Goten X 01:21, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

Well, technically, it's Latino/a...and I'm very aware of what the hell Portuguese people are...bastard! LOL. She's not but still, someone put she was Portuguese and I'm just saying she's not nor is she European. I am a Latina and Asian mixed Bajan so I said just that, pendejo! I have cousins who are Guyanese and Bajan as well, yet their eyes are apple green and as blue as the ocean, yet they have no European ancestry and they are as brown as coffee (with and/or without the cream!) Thank You Very Much, effing bastards! 152.8.232.38 02:41, 13 September 2007 (UTC)♥Fellow Blue-Eyed Bajan♥

Since you like being technical, I'll get technical on you right now. TECHNICALLY, in contemporary usage of the word, Latino/a refers to persons of South American descent; whether their ancestry is European, African, Indian or a mix of those is not given consideration to - they are still called "Latino/a". Portuguese are not "Latinos/as" in the current usage of the word. They are Southwestern Europeans, just like the Spanish of Spain. In the proper usage of the term "Latin", it should have continued to refer to the original Latins of southern Europe (present-day Italians, Spaniards, French, Portuguese, Romanians, and some other European ethnic groups), but this is not so, so your assertion that Portuguese are Latin is wrong based on the current usage of the term. Other than that, you seem not to have a clue what the hell you're talking about. You have initially said to call Rihanna "African, Creole, or Portuguese, which is separate from European. Thank you." Like I said, Portuguese ARE European. Now, you're saying - She's not but still, someone put she was Portuguese and I'm just saying she's not nor is she European. So now you think she shouldn't be called Portuguese, after initially saying that she should be called "African, Creole, or Portuguese"? You really are suffering from a shortage of brain cells. How old are you, 12? By the way, you don't need to have immediate European ancestry in order to show physical features that are originally exhibited by Europeans. Even having one green-eyed, blond European ancestor hundreds of years ago can today give an Asian or an African an eye or hair color the majority of which is possessed by Europeans. You should've paid more attention in your biology class; it's called genetic transmission of physical and mental features. Speaking of genetic transmission, I don't know about physically, but mentally you seem to have inherited the worst of your kind. Wow thanks for writing so close to my answer that I can't even read yours ha ha ha. For your information, the Portuguese are Latino, why else do they classify themselves as such. Spanish people are too of course unless you want to say they are hispanic, but (technically) they are, why else would they say they are.(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latino) And actually, someone put that she was African, Creole, and Portuguese biyatch! And are you changing your story again because you said she was. I am young thank you ha ha, and why would you want to continue an argument even if it was left by a 12 year old? Tsk Tsk, too much time to waste on your hands, I suppose lol. Oh and if you're can't understand what I said, why don't you freaking translate it since you've got to much god damn time on your hands!! And actually, hair and eye color is not based on Europeans, even if they do possess it still because there are naturally blond and red headed black people still living today who have not set a foot into "Europe". Why don't you go look up Aborigines of Australia or New Guinea. Pendejo = asshole! there you go bastard. )♥Fellow Blue-Eyed Bajan♥ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 152.8.232.38 (talk) 06:21, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

I know Rihanna, I know no one will believe but I dont really care I'm just going to tell you this. Her father is part Irish as stated and her mom is guyanese, but rihanna is mostly Black. So if you wanted to be completely correct she is of African, European, and South American descent.

As for this eye color debate, its possible for certain asians to have green eyes. Mainly some Indians, Sri Lankans, people from pakistan, Afganistan etc, but its not likely. Blue eyes however rather you realize it or not you have someone from europe in your family beacause thats the only place you can find that eyes color. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jammy2 (talkcontribs) 06:56, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Reason why i ask is because she has been here for years & if so how long has she been here? —Preceding unsigned comment added by ChesterTheWorm (talkcontribs) 08:56, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

She's only been in the States for two years? wow she doesn't have a Barbadian accent at all, that's weird. Supaman89 19:06, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
She does have a bit of an accent, if you listen to her talk for a while. Blackjays1 (talk) 02:08, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Exactly, Barbadians don't have thick accents. That is why people in Barbados say we just have a dialect- because we just pronounce some words differently from Americans. Most people say it sounds like we "sing when we talk" but it is all the same English language though. Also it is likely she would become a dual-national if anything. Barbados allows their nationals to have two citizenships they want. CaribDigita (talk) 06:29, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

she hasn't lived of their for that long and her accents not that amercian listen to her speck and you can hear it not amercian at all it's just barbados in near amercia so sounds simpler people from canadian sound like amercians to if you listen but not completely —Preceding unsigned comment added by Veggiegirl (talkcontribs) 00:35, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Who did her Geneology???? Because in Barbados as the story goes pretty much all of the Irish that were in Barbados, had gotten their freedom with the mass importation of African slaves and the vast majority left in mass numbers to move to North + South Carolina and to Massachusetts... As such, today the Bajan dialect is very much different from all the surrounding Caribbean islands... Namely it doesn't sound like the Jamaican or Trinidadian accents which are more Irish sounding. The Barbadian dieclect is more of England pitch and tone not Irish. CaribDigita (talk) 02:49, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Chris Brown

Yes I have seen some of the last edits about some rumors that Chris Brown and Rihanna may be dating but it's only a spotting and more like a rumor according to the NY Daily News, much like about 2 years ago when a similar rumor flared up on whether Jay-Z and Rihanna were having more then just a business-like relationship [5] Wait before a more substantial report comes out because that would just be crystal-balling and also gossip-like material which violates WP#NOT and possibly WP:V/WP:RS/WP:CRYSTAL, . If this persists, it may have to be semi-protected again.JForget 17:11, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

I think we need a much better source then that (as of 01:00 Feb 16, 2008) about any relationship with Chris Brown especially since it is said to be rumors and that it is from a gossip site. I will wait someone else to remove it. I think we should stop adding this until a more serious source proves the relationship and that it is not rumors.--JForget 01:06, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
I've removed it, being bold, since Wikipedia is not a gossip site (not TMZ.com or other paparazzi-like sites). We need a more serious claim then this.--JForget 01:11, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
That's enough I've semi-protected the article for a month although vandalism was quite heavy too recently--JForget 15:43, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

The multiple issues tag

I don't know who placed the top tag but as far as I know, I don't see any problem with the tone, section and wikify, so I've removed those for now. Also, the editor in question did not made an explanation for that tag although cleanup maybe be needed indeed.--JForget 01:15, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Everything on those tags except maybe the expert needed seems appropriate to me. If the article wasn't protected I would help clean up myself. 71.139.5.47 (talk) 16:30, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

I've removed the unclear/confusing and expert issues from the tag because I don't think it needs much of attention from an expert and the article doesn't seem to be confusing. Well unfortunately, I had to protect the page yesterday because the vandalism was too high and that anonymous editors repeatedly adding gossip material (see section above). Although you can create yourself an account if you want too and in a few days you can edit this article (since new registered users also cannot edit to this article for a certain period until they can edit semi-protected pages). If not, the semi-protection will be lifted automatically in 4 weeks.--JForget 17:11, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

"Terrible" is rather rude, don't you think? The article is not "terrible," just simply choppy now, which I wonder why. It may have been a be excessive before, but right now it's just so choppy that it hardly make any sense anymore.206.40.103.14 (talk) 01:27, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

So long and thanks for all the fish

I shortened the article. If you don't think its perfect, if you think its choppy, fine - but improve what's left.

To put back what was verbose, un-encyclopedic and sycophantic makes no sense.

I think its vandalism to make no improvement to an article but just to keep overriding someone else's efforts.

I give up. This artist will make no historical mark on the future anyway. I'll go back to improving articles that matter.

Rihanna also seems to have an album called "Hotness" involving a number of other artists. Though the album is nowhere to be seen on sites like Amazon or iTunes, it is floating around on the torrents. Any other Bajans want to help build up the Rupee (musician) article???

The Rihanna article looks good now... Anyone else want to Colab. on the other major Barbadian musicians that have made it big outside of "The Rock"??? Like Rupee (musician)... His song "What Happens in the Party, Stays in the Party" from a couple years ago started that whole ad push by Los Vegas and the "What Happens in Vegas" movie title and so on. And his other song "Do the Damn' Thing" also got remade by other hip-hop artistes (including Lil' Kim.) Needless to say he also had the song Skin-to -Skin "Tempted to Touch". There's a lot that could be said of Rupee's success as well. All the reason why a big label like Atlantic signed him up... CaribDigita (talk) 21:06, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

I absolutely agree this picture should be replaced with a more current one. Her ever-changing style is a major part of her image, so the photo must be regularly updated when need be. Rihanna's Financial Problems?

I found some sites on the internet claiming that due to poor management and lackluster record sales, Rihanna is broke. I heard she only has $20,000 left to her name. The blogs claim their sources to be MTV news, but I searched mtv.com and found NOTHING on this. • So what, I need to find a source for that source? That's ridiculous! NME is reliable! But I guarantee you, this will leak to other news sources over the course of the next few days and weeks. Pretty soon you'll see it on CNN and Access Hollywood and other legit sources. So while you may be unable to add it to the article for now, Google it and you'll get nearly every blog that exists reporting this (and I'm not saying cite a blog as a reliable reference, so don't take it out of context.) It's a sad fact, but a fact that will eventually be known by the general public. --Crackthewhip775 (talk) 19:37, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

  • Seems pretty noteworthy to me (and there are several references for it), though it will be interesting to see what kind of fallout occurs in her career/life. But hey, no time like the present to give editing a shot! WP:BE BOLD! Maybe add it in as a new paragraph under Biography (not sure it needs a section just yet): "in August, 2008, it was reported that <blah blah blah>". Then throw a <ref> and </ref> around each source url and you're good to go. Dp76764 (talk) 20:53, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks dude! I appreciate your help! I'm not done yet, but correct me if my edits are odd-looking. --Crackthewhip775 (talk) 21:32, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

I've reverted that change. Please read wp:blp. The gist of it is that you need a highly reputable source in order to justify putting scurrilous information into the biography of a living person. Wikipedia is very serious about this. Looie496 (talk) 21:53, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

  • And MTV UK is not a reputable source? Just asking. Dp76764 (talk) 00:42, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
  • Give it a few days, then they'll be so many reliable sources reporting this no one will be able to dispute it. The way it's spreading at breakneck speed on the internet, it's bound to make it to mainstream sources VERY soon. And then Rihanna's people are gonna have to confirm or deny this story (or keep silent, which is a confirmation in itself), though it's looking to be pretty much true at this point. Either way, it'll be notable enough to be included in the article . --Crackthewhip775 (talk) 01:16, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

1. Having 20,000 dollars to your name isnt called being bankrupt. Bankrupt is not being able to pay your bills. 2. Thats 20,000 dollars could be from actually earnings but not the money she got when she actually signed her record deal or the many contracts she has. Uncle works for a record label(I asked him about this) and if she was actually broke believe me you all would know but I seriously doubt she is anywhere near it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jammy2 (talkcontribs) 04:13, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

FIRST of all, DO NOT change the section title without warning, it's rude. This isn't the article itself, so there's NO reason for doing so. If you wanna start a section with a different title, then feel free to do so, but don't change this one because you don't like how it's worded, especially when you didn't start this one. SECOND of all, $20,000 IS bankrupt when you sold five million copies of your album, have a bunch of promotional deals with several companies and have several number singles, and yet you don't have the money EQUAL to your success to show it. And why? Because her managers used her money without her knowledge or consent to fund her projects. So while 20,000 may be a lot to you, it's a travesty for her, especially when you live her lifestyle. And by the way, Google "Rihanna is broke" and you'll be surprised how many results you get. In fact, there are a couple of references above you can click to find out for yourself. And it'll only be a matter of time before your jaw drops to the floor seeing it on TV, so EVERYONE will know at some point. --Crackthewhip775 (talk) 06:44, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
Yelling (ALL CAPS) at others users is also rude, Crackthewhip775. Continuing, the title of the thread must be changed under biographies of living persons. Reverting the title of the thread from what I've just changed it to is not recommended, under BLP. --Winger84 (talk) 16:57, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
  • Could you please point out where in WP:BLP the topic of 'the title of a thread on a talk page' is discussed? I read most of that policy and it didn't seem to say anything about thread titles on talk pages. Dp76764 (talk) 18:37, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
Exactly, because the last time I checked, this rule applied only to articles, not talk pages. I didn't say anything so offensive or out of line that it can't be said anywhere in Wikipedia. Second, you didn't identify yourself the last time you reverted the thread title, nor did you explain why. So of course I reverted it, because I naturally thought it was someone trying to start trouble, instead of doing the simple task of starting a new section. --Crackthewhip775 (talk) 18:51, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
Changing of the title the first time. Quoting from BLP, "We must get the article right," "Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a tabloid; it is not our job to be sensationalist, or to be the primary vehicle for the spread of titillating claims about people's lives," "In the case of significant public figures, there will be a multitude of reliable, third-party published sources to take material from, and Wikipedia biographies should simply document what these sources say," and "Unsourced or poorly sourced contentious material about living persons—whether the material is negative, positive, or just questionable—should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion, from Wikipedia articles, talk pages, user pages, and project space." --Winger84 (talk) 19:47, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
Also, in reference to your statement of "...it'll only be a matter of time before your jaw drops to the floor seeing it on TV, so EVERYONE will know at some point," Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. --Winger84 (talk) 19:50, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
  • BLP doesn't appear to deal with talk page issues like this: "We must get the article right". Talk pages aren't precisely part of the article. And on the topic of the sourcing, there have already been several sources listed, so this is hardly 'unsourced or poorly sourced'; in addition, this is a non-pertinent point in relation to the issue of 'a title of a thread on the talk page'. If you don't like the writing style of another editor, isn't it the proper/polite thing to discuss it with them instead of just editing their work? (in an article I would say edit it (with explanation), but on a talk page it's a different story) Dp76764 (talk) 20:02, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
Note the last passage that I quoted, please... it includes talk pages. Titling the thread as "BREAKING NEWS..." implies that it has been confirmed as fact, when - in fact - there is no official confirmation that this story is true. At this stage, it is merely a rumor. To present it as fact, particularly when dealing with an issue such as a potential bankruptcy, may expose Wikipedia to a lawsuit when dealing with a common John or Jane Q. Public, but especially when the subject is a person of international interest, such as is the case with Rihanna. I'm not doubting the story, because things such as this do unfortunately happen all too often in the music industry, but I strongly urge Wikipedia and its editors not to represent rumors as facts, at this point. --Winger84 (talk) 21:24, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
  • Fair enough to ask for a reliable source, but this just makes me wonder who is considered 'reliable enough'? MTV is usually pretty reliable on music related news. Anyway, going by that interpretation of BLP, why didn't you just remove this entire section (which it recommends)? Dp76764 (talk) 22:13, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
A "reliable enough" source, in my opinion, on this matter would be a released statement from her label, Island Def Jam Music Group, either on their website or on her official website. I did not remove this section because, as has been pointed out, several typically reliable outlets have reported this story which makes it a legitimate question, in my mind. In that regard, this is a legitimate discussion toward improving the article, which is the purpose of the talk page. I am willing to allow a slight amount of "wiggle room" under BLP to discuss whether or not the information should be included in the article. My objection was over the title of the thread being misleading, that is to say that it would lead someone who had not heard anything about the story to believe that it was a confirmed fact rather than what it is at this point in time.
That being said, if someone sees fit to remove this thread entirely under their interpretation of BLP and a consensus is reached to that regard, I would not object. --Winger84 (talk) 22:40, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
MTV is a reliable source and if look at the articles featuring entertainers, particularly musicians, the majority of them cite MTV as one of their references regarding certain subjects in the articles, otherwise that would no longer be the case. We don't necessarily have to wait only until her label says something, because if CNN or Access Hollywood report it, but Rihanna's people stay mum, does that mean it wouldn't deserve a mention in the article? And I read the crystal ball policy, my statement/ opinion about jaws dropping was said here, not in the article; therefore I didn't violate any policies. By the way, if it doesn't cause the world to blow up, can I change this thread to "You can stand under my pile of bills, ills, ills,"? I don't believe anyone will be gullibly misled by that ? --Crackthewhip775 (talk) 04:33, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
Dude, I heard this story might make its way to Page Six of the New York Post. Keep an eye out for that. By the way, I also saw the story on Gigwise.com http://www.gigwise.com/news/45537/rihanna-suffers-dramatic-loss-of-income. Online music magazine, not a blog, should be a reliable source. --Crackthewhip775 (talk) 08:33, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
I'd like to know why you reverted the new title. It doesn't violate any BLP policies, nor is it vandalism and if you think joke titles for talk pages are a problem, then you should be reverting a ton of other pages as well. Why keep focusing on just this one? --Crackthewhip775 (talk) 09:15, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
Please see WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. --Winger84 (talk) 16:59, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
The Gigwise story, like all the others I've seen so far, uses phrases like "Rihanna has apparently fired her manager", and "Rihanna has reportedly lost most of her income". When the apparently and reportedly go away, then this becomes a validated story. Even then, it isn't clear that it would belong in her biography, but that's a different issue. Read this WP:DONTBITE. --Crackthewhip775 (talk) 23:51, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
WP:DONTBITE is a guideline. WP:BLP is an official policy. Looie496 (talk) 00:05, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
I was replying to the one before you, Looie, I know you don't think the sources are credible enough for the article. --Crackthewhip775 (talk) 04:03, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
Why would you quote BITE, if you were - in fact - referring to my post? I did nothing that would violate that guideline. All I did was point out an invalid argument that you were using ("...should be reverting a ton of other pages as well"). --Winger84 (talk) 15:23, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Worldwide number ones

There is a typo on her official page. It reads [of the Good Girl Gone Bad singles] "...including five worldwide number ones." This is incorrect, as it should read three instead of five [not to mention the three are listed straight after]. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.11.61.201 (talk) 20:24, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

Rihanna isn't broke and she admits it herself

Below you can listen to Rihanna’s newest interview to an australian radio. She reveals the real story about her and Chris Brown, what her childhood was like, all the inside goss on her new tour, she denies the rumour that she’s broke and many more.

She explains that the rumour was totaly fake as her business manager isn't even female and is actually two men.

I have tried to put the link up but for some reason Ultimate Rihanna - The #1 Rihanna fansite has been blacklisted?.. Strange. —Preceding unsigned comment added by DaytonaMike (talkcontribs) 14:47, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for clearing up everything because as you can tell from above, it was the subject of a very heated discussion. Not a good singer, by the way. And no ability to dance. Crackthewhip775 (talk) 22:26, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Profane picture

We really need to change that picture of Rihanna. Little kids go on Wikipedia a lot, and if they looked up Rihanna, they get to see half her breast!

BDSM idol?

I am missing reference to her style and outfit, which, after all, lean towards BDSM culture. What about her PVC costumes, toeboots, all the leather straps and stuff? On some TV programme (can't remember which, sadly), they said Rhianna has brought "BDSM fashion" into publicity and made it socially acceptable. Can anyone contribute to this aspect? 141.99.254.253 (talk) 15:32, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

I like the BDSM culture =) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Njuuton (talkcontribs) 19:14, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
