GA Review[edit]

Article (edit | visual edit | history) · Article talk (edit | history) · Watch

I'll be conducting the review. To start off with, I'll hit everything sans the prose, since that will of course take the longest. Everything's mostly good, but I found a couple issues (moved to below):

After reading this article, I'm very impressed with it. Despite being familiar with the American Revolution and Seven Years' War I was unfamiliar with this person, so it was a great read. Here are things I found to fix:

  • The Hudson Valley reference doesn't work, which is odd since it worked last week. See if you can find an updated link.
  • Remove self-references and replace them. (Ref #18, #116).
  • Any middle name? (I doubt it else it'd be added, but I thought I'd ask).
  • Try not to refer to Richard Montgomery by his first name only; too informal for an encyclopedia.
  • "While it is uncertain exactly what transpired between them at this time, Janet noticed, when the 17th returned from service back to New York, that the young Montgomery was not with the regiment." This sentence feels awkward. Also, is it known when he came back, since it could be a difference in interpretation.
  • Are there mentions of a specific illness? Again, I assume not if none is mentioned.
  • Double-check and copyedit the article (i found a couple typos but copyediting is my weak spot in reviewing)
  • Captains McPherson and Cheesman could use first names/links.
  • The dating is inconsistent (3 january and january 3 both exist). Pick one or the other.
  • "In Philadelphia, there is a statue of Montgomery in Fairmount Park, near the Philadelphia Museum of Art." This could use a citation.

I'll put this on hold for a week, and pass the article upon completion of these queries. Wizardman 04:59, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is basically Kieran's article, but I wrote the sentence about Janet noticing Montgomery's absence. In context, it is made clear later in the article (see Pontiac's Rebellion) that he returned to England while the regiment was still on duty. Mention of this early departure could be made here if that will help clarify things.
Also, I can't recall the sources I've seen (primarily Gabriel) saying what his illness was, although it's easy to speculate it was malaria or something similar.
In re the statue: I actually have a photo somewhere that I had thought of adding to the article, but it's not that great. Will that do in place of a citation?

A picture would work, yes. Free images are always good even if the picture quality isn't that great. The other comments are noted and I understand them. Wizardman 16:37, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've added the image. Also, I rewrote the sentence about Janet and Richard's meeting. Magic♪piano 19:54, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
All of your conerns have been taken care of, excluding the illness, which is not mentioned in either of the main sources.-Kieran4 (talk) 00:25, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I reverted Kieran's change to the reference to the Vaudreuil bio -- Nationmaster is a rebranded Wikipedia distribution, and thus not reliable. If there's something wrong with that reference, I'm at a loss to understand why -- as far as I can tell, biographi.ca qualifies as a reliable source. Perhaps the reviewer can explain what's wrong with the reference? Magic♪piano 02:12, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Never mind, I figured it out. The reference's {{cite web}} was missing the ref parameter. Magic♪piano 02:16, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Article's in a much better state now, and that ref issue is fixed in its current state, so I will now pass the article. Wizardman 02:19, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
