Why did this redirect to Rich Internet Application? -130.243.75.187 (talk) 08:17, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This should never ever redirect to an article called "Internet"-anything. The server is frequently on localhost, so an internet is not involved. RIA is some other vendor's buzzword anyway. Poppafuze (talk) 06:33, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think the confusion is because the term "Rich Client Platform" has two uses:
  • A Development Platform for Rich Clients (Such as Eclipse RCP, for building Rich Client Applications or Rich Internet Applications, but I'm not certain the Eclipse team is using the term accurately. Are they confusing "Thick Client" (a traditional, locally installed client) with "Rich Client"?)
  • A run-time environment platform for "Rich Client" applications such as Flash, Silverlight, or Java. (I think the term "Rich Client" is virtually the same as "Rich Internet Application", because I've never heard of an application accessed through a browser that was not delivered via network.)
All three of the above run-time environments are commonly referred to as "platforms", although that isn't their exclusive use in any case (adding to the confusion). Perhaps what we need are two separate pages disambiguate the two usages? The usage and overlapping nature of all these terms can certainly be confusing. I agree this should not redirect to RIA.
