WP:N[edit]

This person appears to be WP:BLP1E --- the coverage WP wants is for Elk Cloner, not for Rich Skrenta.

Uhh....Rich Skrenta was also the founder of the Open Directory Project and Topix LLC (one of the top 15 news sites in the world). I would think that qualifies for notability alone. Newtman 08:21, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Surely, "one of the top 15 news sites in the world" merits coverage. That does not mean this person does. Many of the largest companies in the world, companies who, along with their CEOs, appear in the news on a weekly basis, do not find their CEOs covered in WP. Can you find w reliable source writing about Richard Skrenta (not TOPIX.NET, with quotes from Skrentra and others) that isn't about Elk Cloner? --- tqbf 17:04, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also covered in TechCrunch about Blekko.[1] Considering his involvement in many well known projects (TASS, ODP, Elk Cloner...) he certainly is notable. It's like saying Gary Kildall isn't notable because the coverage of him is about CP/M. // Liftarn (talk)
Gary Kildall is more notable than CP/M; moreover, both Kildall and CP/M are independently notable. The same isn't the case here. --- tqbf 19:29, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I would disagree. Skrenta is notable because of the various thing he has been involed in yes. If he hadn't done anything he wouldn't be notable, but now he has. 65,500 google hits. // Liftarn (talk)
That's not a good criterion, skrenta now has 43500 hits while I have 65500 and I do not have an entry on Wikipedia. Best regards, Alpertron (talk) 23:16, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Stipulated on the google search per WP:GHITS, although that goes for both of you; Google hits don't count for or against notability. BUt claim of WP:BLP1E is complicated by the fact that this very policy says:If the event is significant and the individual's role within it is substantial, a separate biography may be appropriate. Individuals notable for well-documented events, such as John Hinckley, Jr., fit into this category. The significance of an event or individual should be indicated by how persistent the coverage is in reliable sources. Author of one of the first computer viruses to get into the wild is a pretty substantial role for that event. Besides, as others have cited above, and the article itself shows, there are other points of notability here. Rifter0x0000 (talk) 16:20, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
