Confusing and unclear[edit]

This article is confusing, particularly for non-specialist readers. The introduction ought clearly to state why the Swansea route was desirable. The wikilink to the Marquess of Bute does not help understanding of why the Marquess had a monopoly; is that true anyway? Of what? Railway transport, or dock provision in Cardiff? The explanation about a railway connection to Barry is not properly integrated into the article.
