Cause of death[edit]

When I was living in Parraburdoo I remember it was reported in the local paper that Red dog was suffering from heartworm and it was that he eventually died from not strychnine poisoning. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ichor202 (talkcontribs) 08:45, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Colonel or Col Cummings?[edit]

I notice that some sources refer to the probable first owner of Red as "Colonel Cummings", and others as "Col Cummings". Maybe "Col" there is intended to be an abbreviation for "Colonel"; but the full-stop that should be there to indicate that is usually missing, and so it could indicate a Christian name, Col - perhaps short for Colin. This interpretation is supported by the way at least one source, after naming him in full as Col Cummings, then goes on to say that Col moved to some other place, treating "Col" like a first name - you would never use "Col" in that way if were short for the title "Colonel" and you were aware of that.

This Wikipedia article seems to interpret it as Col, just a first name - but is there any clear information available on this? Or might this be a piece of information forever lost to the mists of time because, as a general population, we have got sloppy in neglecting to use punctuation properly - in this case to distinguish between an abbreviated title and a first name? It's a text-book example of why I have long been very strict - some might say pedantic - about proper use of punctuation. M.J.E. (talk) 02:14, 24 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
