March - April of 2017 Afd discussion[edit]

In March and April of 2017, an Afd discussion was held regarding this article, using the following Afd template:

This article was nominated for deletion on 9 March 2017. The result of the discussion was redirect to Josephine Baker.

This Afd discussion was unfortunately closed during a time when I was out of town on business, and was not able to participate in the month-long discussion at that point. I then hesitantly stood by and allowed the page to be redirected to Josephine Baker. I have since gotten a little bit more time to discuss this, and as such have now both posted my rationale for page restoration section below, and have tentatively restored the page pending the outcome of the discussion below. I thank all for their attention to the questions that this page apparently poses.

Rationale for page restoration[edit]

On April 4, 2017, a month long aFd discussion about deleting this disambiguation page was closed in favor of changing it to a redirect only to the Josephine Baker article. As I understand it, disambiguation pages are typically meant to assist our readers to reach the articles they are actually "looking for."

If a significant number of our readers are coming to Wikipedia with the term "Rainbow Tribe" only in their minds, and are looking for a group of non-conformist counter-cultural hippies who like to use a "native american motif," and who still meet once each year by the thousands in their teepees, at gatherings like this 2015 Mount Shasta "gathering" event, and who use as one of their websites the http://welcomehome.org website, which mentions the words rainbow and tribe in its first two intro paragraphs, then I see no reason why Wikipedia should not assist any such folks in finding the information they might be coming here to find.

Admittedly, back in the 70s, I was first told of these "Rainbow Tribe" annual gatherings, and in my own mind, "Rainbow Tribe" is the phrase that I always go back to, to find out about these "gathering events," not that I've ever attended one in person, mind you. (I certainly wouldn't want anyone to possibly associate me in their minds as one of "them!") :-) Obviously the newspaper reporter, who wrote the article linked to just above regarding the 2015 Mount Shasta event, still called them the "Rainbow Tribe." Why not allow folks like the newspaper reporter and his readers, to find the info they might be seeking in Wikipedia?

I apologize for not staying with the aFd discussion for the full month last spring, as I was away on business for the latter part of that conversation. I will notify the "opener" and the "closer" of that aFd discussion of my having restored this disambiguation page, and will be happy to discuss this with them here, if they may wish.
