Initial review[edit]

This article is fairly close to GA level, but it needs additional work to bring it up to that level. As I consider that this is achievable, I will put the article On Hold.

The main problems, as can been seen below, is lack of WP:Verify; and in one case, where verification was provided, the statement was contradicted by the in-line citation.

I intend to leave any comments upon the WP:Lead until last, but it is inadequate as it stands.

  • Stone Age until the Norman Conquest -
  • Stone age articles found at Lesser Garth Cave - so what, this is the only mention of Lesser Garth Cave? Is it in Radyr?
  • It's located just outside Morganstown. I've added a small note clarifying this.
  • ref needed for final sentence.
  • Used ref 2 for this. I've also updated the reference with an online PDF version which should help verify some facts.
  • Origin of the name
  • I checked ref 3 for both "tref" and "Aradur Hen", but did not find a match!
  • My inital searches have also drawn a blank. I've deleted that reference for the time being - also, ref 2 covers this subject so this paragraph is still referenced.
  • Norman occupation until the Middle Ages -
  • There is some ambiguity in the grammar over the timber palisade, is it surrounding the Motte, the bailey, or both?
  • According to the source, it appears it's just the motte. I've amended the text to suit.
  • Web ref 5 is a broken link.
  • There was a mention of a dungeon on the site's front page. However, I've replaced this ref with a more acceptable news source.
  • Probably not. I've replaced this with a more reliable book reference.
  • Tudor legacy -
  • Mostly unreferenced.
  • I've added some more reference points. If I can find a further source I'll include this as well.
  • Stuart period
  • Mostly unreferenced.
  • Done.
  • Development from the 18th Century
  • Second, third and fourth paragraphs unreferenced.
  • Last paragraph. Population increases unsupported and contradicted by ref 12. Paragraph claims "but after Radyr railway station opened in 1863[11] the population doubled.[12]". From ref 12 - 472 people in 1861, 422 in 1871, 519 in 1881, 619 in 1891!
  • Last sentence unreferenced.
  • All fixed now.
  • Wartime Radyr-
  • Does the "nearby" military hospital have a name?
  • Yes, I'm pretty sure it was the Welsh Metropolitan Military Hospital in Whitchurch.
  • Community Council -
  • Unreferenced.
  • Done
  • Radyr Weir -
  • Mostly unreferenced, but second paragraph needs citations. Note: It appears to have been taken from Ref 16, but is not cited.
  • Refs added.
  • Radyr Woods Nature Area -
  • Only first and last sentences are referenced. Note: It appears that Ref 17 & 18 may have been used, but are not cited.
  • I found another reference to add to this, and rearranged the existing refs to suit the text.
  • Religious sites -
  • Web ref 30 is a broken link.
  • Fixed that ref and tidyed itup a little, but the second paragraph will probably need expanding.
  • Sports and recreation
  • Web ref 31 is a broken link.
  • Fixed.
  • Rail -
  • Entirely unreferenced.
  • This is a major problem as the first sentence's claim certainly needs verifying, and so far I can't find a reference for this. I've added some more to the rest of the section.
  • The sentence about Radyr stone is an exact duplicate of a sentence in Geological structure.
  • I've removed this as it was totally unecessary for this section.
  • Scope / History-
  • History stops at WW II, some 65 years ago; yet Radyr is now listed in the lead as an outer suburb of Cardiff. There is no mention of when and how Radyr stopped being a village and started being a suburb of Cardiff.Pyrotec (talk) 15:01, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Additional comments[edit]

Hi! Just some additional comments:

  • the subsection "Development from the 18th Century" needs more referencing
  • the subsection "Entertainment and media" has italic script gone wrong. -  Done.Pyrotec (talk) 22:39, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • left-aligned images should not be placed at the start of subsections

Addressing comments[edit]

Apologies for the delay - major rush at work coupled with a dodgy server has meant very little Wiki time. However, I'm finally going to make a start on addressing your comments now (assuming my server doesn't conk out on me, as it appears to be doing right now).
