Birdlife International[edit]

Queen Noor of Jordan is the president of Birdlife International. It would be interesting to learn something about her work for that organisation. ( Noor : نور meaning light )

Jordanian Royal Family Table[edit]

I find this addition fairly annoying and pretty useless. Not only is it overly large, but it also screws up the format quite nastily. I would like to see the template retooled and replaced, or removed. - Cybjorg 18:51, 9 December 2005 (UTC) I think this article is well done with many facts about the Queen. This article is a great source. It provided me with the information I needed and the facts about the queen I have been looking for. It has information that you can not find anywhere else. Nice work. Mrs. Noor[edit]

It’s very annoying to keep reading "Queen Noor" in every instance that her name is mentioned. Plain old Noor is adequate. But I am too lazy to fix it today...

She is actually supposed to be referred to as "Queen Noor" each time her name is listed. Plain old Noor is not adequate nor is it the correct form of address.

Her height[edit]

There's a link under "See also" to the List of tall women, but she's not on that list and I can't find any info on how tall she is. Does anyone have that info? Entheta 03:22, 25 February 2007 (UTC) She's 5'10 and a half, 179 cm. It used to stand there, dunno why its gone now.[reply]

Wasn't her father the one who worked on the airport?[edit]

I think that she met the king when she traveled with her father, who was asked by the king to help with building the country's new airport. I don't think she actually worked on it herself. Nospamtodd 12:45, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dowager Queen[edit]

The title "Dowager Queen" is not used in Jordan. The widow of a King is styled exactly as she was during her marriage. She is no longer referred to as HM The Queen of Jordan, however, she remains HM Queen Noor al-Hussein. She is styled exactly as Queen Rania al-Abdullah is and as her late mother-in-law was during her widowhood. References to "Dowager Queen" should be removed. Strange and Confusing Claim about her Affiliations[edit]

In the section about Affiliations and international activities, there is a sentence which says: "Queen Noor is not even close to being on the board of the Daniel Pearl Foundation, alongside former President Bill Clinton. [3]"

First of all, if this is true, then why is it in here? She's not even close to being on the board of millions of organizations and we're certainly not going to enumerate them.

Second, the source reference links to a web site which contradicts the statement because it actually lists her on the board.

If the statement is true and is supposed to be negating a false claim on their web site, shouldn't it be citing a reference to information negating the claim?

So is this sentence really supposed to be saying the opposite of what it does? That Queen Noor is on the board of the Daniel Pearl Foundation, alongside former President Bill Clinton.

Grandfather's country of origin?[edit]

The page dedicated to Queen Noor's father says that her grandfather immigrated to the United States from Syria. Queen Noor's page says that he came from Lebanon. Which is correct? Lindea Nier (talk) 04:55, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Role as queen[edit]

While the article does inform about her activites within various fields, it is not very clear about what she did as a queen, and what she did after she was widowed. "She is an American..."[edit]

The article states that she is an American. To quote Bill Clinton, it depends on what the meaning of is is as well as what it means to be "American." If American means a U.S. citizen, I would guess that by marrying a foreign head of state one would cease to be a U.S. citizen. If American is taken to mean a "nationality" rather than citizenship, then saying that she is an American may be alright. However, the present tense "is" could be argued as being incorrect -- she was born and raised "American" and became something else. Should could be described as an American-Jordanian. In the U.S. we tend to struggle with notions of nationality, citizenship and ethnicity. To sum up, I suppose that because American is somewhat of an ambiguous term with multiple connotations, it would be more precise to state in that sentence that she was born and raised in the U.S. or is an American-Jordanian (or if after the passing of her husband she decided to re-acquire her status as American just leave it as American). "Not accepted"[edit]

"Initially, the new queen was not accepted by the people of Jordan, as she was not of Arab Muslim birth." What does this matter, when the king's other wives weren't Arab Muslims either? Grotesque photograph[edit]

Name in arabic[edit]

First American-born queen of a Middle Eastern country[edit]

Noor becoming the first American-born queen of a Middle Eastern country is historical and significant. Queen Mary of Denmark is citied as the first Australian-born queen of a European country in her Wikipedia as well. It is also mentioned in multiple articles about her.
