Spelling of Ancient Arabic Name in English.[edit]

To whoever keeps on changing Al-Khatt to Al-Khutt, please check this Arabic artical http://www.qatifoasis.com/artc.php?id=727 it clearly says: الخَطّ: بفتح أوله وتشديد الطاء so the correct spelling is clearly Al-Khatt and NOT Al-Khutt

Qatif originally is an island oasis[edit]

It was connected to the mainland by filling of the sea. Before the landfil, during the 1950's initially Qatif was only reachable by road during low tide when the road track will become visible on the seabed. During high tide it was reachable by boat only. Then later on during the 1960's a landfil causeway with permanent road was made. During the 1970's all the gap between the mainland & the Qatif island was landfilled so it became part of the mainland.

Ashura[edit]

Are Ashura processions still "prohibited by law" in Qatif?

Well its not that simple, there is no clear "written" law or constitution. Untill the early 2000s, people responsible for orginizing and planing Ashura activities used to get arrested every year and were forced to sign a statement that they would never do it again! However, there havent been any such Ashura arrestes for the last two years. I assume the government just started to ignore what happens, since arresting the people responsible dose not do any good and its very difficult to prohibit commen Ashura activities in a large vertually 100% Shia county with a high population. But " odd or unusual" activities are still usually prohibited.

ECONOMY

this part talks only about oil prodouction, so it is better to name oil production Qatif is the biggest city at the world produce the oil (I think Abqaiq is the largest)?

, more than 800,000 barrels of oil each day only from one oilfield, (this number includes Abu Safa production)

I think this need to be rewritten

Revert[edit]

I don't understand why the article was reverted, as all the corrections I made were valid: (1) Ashura celebrations are no longer prohibited, and there's a valid citation for that, (2) Bahrain was not a "political" entity, but simply a geographic term similar to "Nejd" and "Hejaz" (until the 20th century), (3) there is nothing to show the notability of "al-Khatti, M.D." - surely there are far more important and interesting things to be said about al-Qatif before we should put in a line like that. -- Slacker 17:39, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No response for 5 days. I'll take it as a sign that no one objects. Slacker 17:41, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article Scope[edit]

Another issue that needs to be resolved is whether this article is about a region called al-Qatif, or the city of al-Qatif. There is indeed a Qatif Governorate, but the pages for cities and their eponymous governorates are usually seperate. Slacker 17:39, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
