El? Al?[edit]

Although transliteration from the Arabic is not standardized and "al" and "el" are roughly equivalent, the website of Cairo University uses "Kasr Al-Ainy" (with a hyphen). A different Wikipedia article writes "Kasr Al-Aini Street". Is there discussion somewhere in Wikipedia about at least a Wikipedia standardization? Myron (talk) 22:07, 24 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's even worse: the variant transliterations include Kasr vs. Qasr, el vs. El vs. al vs. Al, and Ainy vs. Aini vs. Eini, and either 0, 1, or 2 hyphens in a very large number of combinations. It seems as though the hospital was known in English as Kasr El Aini for most of its history; now Kasr Ali-Aini may be more popular. The solution is to create the appropriate redirects for the most frequent variants. - Nunh-huh 06:56, 27 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
