Hey its kinda baseless to state that Puhar was destroyed by the Tsunami (if you have any reference as to scientist's speculation, kindly provide link).

As, the established fact or at least accepted fact is that both Kaverippompatanam and kapadapuram was destroyed by floods/sea level rise.

  • A Tsunami (as i understand) is a sudden rise of the waterlevel in the shores due to underwater sesimic activity...
  • My point is, very rarely Tsunamis breach and DESTROY entire cities..especially something as big as Puhar, which stands at 49Sqmiles (underwater) and in most cases reversible..(water recedes to the ocean)
  • A rise in sealevel is on the other hand, a slow process and in most cases irreversable..

thanks for your time.

Deleted 'Politics' section[edit]

Puhar(Kaveripattinam) was a part of Nagappatinam district. Though the town Kaveripattinam mentioned in the politics section exists it is no way related to Puhar. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dilsen (talkcontribs) 05:31, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. That was Kaveripattinam (Dharmapuri), part of Krishnagiri (Lok Sabha constituency). Puhar or PoomPuhar is part of Mayiladuturai (Lok Sabha constituency). Fixing it. --GDibyendu (talk) 18:48, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputing the veracity of the "City Layout" section[edit]

It is highly doubtful that any Chola emperor, let alone Elara Chola, ruled over such vast provinces that included "Bangladesh, Burma, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Singapore, and Maldives." It is also inconceivable to have berthed "around 10,000 battle ships in the kavaripatinum port." Even if they were just large boats rather than full pledged ships, it is doubtful that Cholan navy needed or had a 10,000 boat strong navy. What is the evidence for either assertion? — Preceding unsigned comment added by KaNiJan2 (talkcontribs) 19:24, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

User:Hunnjazal proposed that this article be merged with Poombuhar on 2021-04-25.

  • Support the April merge proposal; seems to be the same location. Perhaps merge to Puhar, Mayiladuthurai as the better-developed article. Klbrain (talk) 14:12, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Merge to Puhar, Mayiladuthurai as Klbrain suggested. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 07:06, 26 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support we obviously shouldn't have two articles for the same place, @MPGuy2824 and Klbrain: this should go ahead. Doug Weller talk 12:48, 17 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support merge. Article title must be retained as Poompuhar since it is more notable. Qaumrambista (talk) 14:52, 10 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support merge. Merge to Puhar, Mayiladuthurai, and retain the title as Poompuhar as Qaumrambista suggested, as it is a more notable name in Tamil history. The merged article has so much potential to improve Chancemill (talk) 14:08, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
