The invitation[edit]

Hi BD, I only just noticed special:diff/750779518 sorry it got lost in distraction to later replies. I think I'll take you up on that in response to your special:diff/752651460.

That said, I don't necessarily agree that there is a clear consensus to close the discussion or not add the names. You and I agree for their inclusion, after all, and it looked like neither Hidden Tempo or Ravensfire were pushing for their exclusion. Jayron32 and RHAworth and TFD also seemed neutral on this, arguing for evidence and proper argument procedure, but not exclusion.

The objections I did see from MelanieN and Michelangelo1992 and Muboshgu and MrX and NorthBySouthBaranof and Scjessey for the most part did not focus on whether or not the nick names were notable. I think you rushed to calling that a 'clear consensus'.

Consensus can only be achieved through conversation, so only those editors who demonstrably weighed the evidence presented in the source (by discussing it directly) can be said to have engaged in the process. The only 'votes' we should be counting in a tally (even though that's not how consensus works) are that of clearly engaged persons, not people showing up to voice a protest to inclusion of information on the basis of offensiveness rather than notability.

For now I will probably take you up on your invite to incorporate the sources I cited into this template here. I doubt Name usage by or about Hillary Clinton is notable for an article, but given that we have a List of nicknames of Presidents of the United States perhaps something similar could be done for List of nicknames for United States Secretaries of State and we could broaden the scope of the idea from just Hillary to everyone who has served in that post? I guess in terms of succession a List of nicknames for Vice Presidents of the United States should probably come first though. Ranze (talk) 14:41, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I do not agree for their inclusion in the main article. I think that we should have a separate article on this topic, which is why I created this one (it was removed from mainspace after a discussion of the matter, but I believe that this consensus will change in the future, as we get further from the protectionism associated with the campaign. bd2412 T 15:00, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Move discussion in progress[edit]

There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:Cultural and political image of John McCain which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 04:33, 2 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
