Why minority?[edit]

Surely if the soverign is a minor, then the prince must be also? Ojw 20:16, 28 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

A prince is:
  • a son or other close male relative of a monarch;
  • a male member of a royal family other than the sovereign, especially (but not necessarily) the son of a sovereign.

Thus a prince regent might be, say, the sovereign's cousin. --Picapica 09:39, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Prince regnant[edit]

I have removed the phrase (or Prince Regnant, as a direct borrowing from French language) since prince regent is itself a direct borowing from the French "prince régent".

"Prince regnant / prince régnant" means something slightly different, I believe: the regent of a principality (e.g. the Prince Regnant of Liechtenstein) as distinct from that of a kingdom (e.g. the Prince Regent of Belgium). --Picapica 09:52, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Prince Regnant" is nothing to do with a regent or regency. It is a reigning prince, the head of state of a sovereign principality. "Regnant" means reigning. Thats why Queen Elizabeth or Queen Margrethe are "queen regnant" but the Queen of Sweden or Norway are "queen consort".Eregli bob (talk) 00:40, 19 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Point?[edit]

A prince regent is just a regent who also happens to be a prince. His powers and prerogatives do not differ at all from those of, say, a queen regent or an otherwise untitled regent. We do not have a separate article for queen regent, nor should we. It all belongs to Regent. Surtsicna (talk) 19:54, 8 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

crystalballing[edit]

Based on unsourced tabloids, it states that the Prince of Wales (Prince Charles) will become Prince Regent in May 2021. At this point that is speculation from newspapers. No announcement from Buckingham Palace or the Queen directly, has been issued. Unless and until such announcement is made, the section is an example of crystalballing and should be removed. 98.10.165.90 (talk) 22:57, 27 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
