Comment[edit]

I'm not familiar enough with the technical details of creating internal links within Wikipedia to achieve a correct link the the Shostakovich book, Testimony. As my edit now stands, it links to the correct entry, but the text in the Prince Igor article still says "Testimony (book)." Expanding the Synopsis, different editions[edit]

In the mid-term I plan to expland the synopsis. Unfortunately, my copy of the libretto is of the Mariinsky edition which differs especially in Act I Sc 2 (traditional numbering) and Act III from the Rimsky edition. If someone has a libretto for that version, I should like to co-operate with them on this piece of work. --Peter cohen 13:44, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Referencing.[edit]

I've included inline citations in my latest additions to the article. I would plan to do so on further changes I make and also on anything I can source from what I have (the booklet to the Philips recording). Could people with other sources please add referencing too. I would add that the following sentence needs to be corrected, given that Rimsky-Korsakov died in 1908: "The practice of omitting it was mentioned as early as 1909 by Rimsky-Korsakov in his memoirs." Mademoiselle Fifi 22:55, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Fifi: I was aware of that fact as I wrote the statement. I do not know exactly when RK made his statement (during the composition of his memoirs, obviously), and defaulted to the publication date (1909) as being the earliest point I can find that the practice of omitting Act 3 is mentioned. Performance History[edit]

The article asserts that Prince Igor was presented "in Paris in 1909, with a Sergei Diaghilev production featuring Feodor Chaliapin as Galitsky and Maria Kuznetsova as Yaroslavna. London saw the same production in 1914 conducted by Thomas Beecham, again with Chaliapin as Galitsky." I have been unable to verify that in any sources.

During his 1909 "Saison Russe" (the "Ballets Russes" did not yet formally exist), Diaghilev presented Act II of the opera, sub-titled "Polovtsian Scenes and Dances". Although the performance included singers and a chorus, there doesn't seem to be any evidence that there was a complete performance, or that Chaliapin and Kuznetsova took part. Again, although there is confirmation that the same ballet was given in London in 1914, and conducted by Beecham, it hasn't been possible to confirm the participation of those two singers, or that anything other than Act II was performed.

Does anybody have a citation that confirms the information asserted in the article? If NOT ... then I will modify it to reflect the information shown in Lynn Garofala's Diaghilev's Ballets Russes and other reliable sources. Yankeecook (talk) 18:29, 18 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

These entries were made by 68.122.3.169 on 23 September 2007 and fleshed out by Ivan Velikii (2006-2008) on 25 September 2007 and also, on the same day, by 68.124.79.119. None of these people seem to be editing any more, although there is a User:Ivan Velikii who still sporadically edits.
