Darryl Kerrigan While the push for this bill came from the Bloc Quebecois' concern that Quebec would lose it's weight in Parliament, the bill's actual purpose is to guarantee that no province loses seats, which was a concern multiple times in the past, one I can think of right now would be An Act to amend the Electoral Boundaries Readjustment Act (Northern Ontario)In fact, Quebec is not even directly mentioned in the text of the bill itself. And yet, the practical effect for this redistribution would be to maintain Quebec's seats, since it is the only province which stands to lose any. The statement in the lead is correct, and it lines up with what RS and what politicians have been saying. You are correct that if this bill is passed and the Constitution amended, other provinces would be protected in *future* redistributions. That is no reason to hide the real goal of this bill though. The government has said saving Quebec's seats is the goal here. So add that all provinces will be protected in future redistributions, but we cannot hide that this is about protecting Quebec seats, and that would be its real practical efffect on the 2022 redistribution.--Darryl Kerrigan (talk) 05:30, 16 April 2022 (UTC)

Completely agreed with Darryl Kerrigan on this one, the purpose of this Bill is to protect Quebec's Seat Count, same as how the "Representation Rule" added by the Fair Representation Act in 2011 theoretically applied to all provinces but unless Manitoba or Nova Scotia has a sudden population explosion will only ever apply to Quebec.
