Palestine versus Israel[edit]

This is an archaeological article and the contemporary useage in archaeological cases for the early and middle Bronze Age is Palestine, not Israel, as archaeologically Israel as a socio-political entity did not exist until the end of the Late Bronze Age at the earliest (in the Stele of Mereptah - the so-called Israel Stele). Calling the area Israel at this time, not only goes against current practice, but is also anachronistic. John D. Croft (talk) 15:26, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The information concerning the Palaeolithic-Neolithic part of the sequence is SO wrong, that it is impossible to correct - it should be just rewritten. I will try to do it, when I will have time...ZMatskevich (talk) 23:00, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK, partly done. References should be inserted - will try to do later. ZMatskevich (talk) 23:46, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The unsourced comment about Joseph's "Coat of many colors" seems off-the-wall for an archaeological article. Keith McClary (talk) 20:05, 20 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Name Change[edit]

Please see discussion at Talk:History_of_pottery_in_Palestine#Name_Change, which is also relevant for this article. Oncenawhile (talk) 20:32, 20 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion for section: Natufian[edit]

Hello Editors, I would suggest that "Cultures," referring to the Natufian culture, be changed from a capital to a lowercase. The culture of the Natufians is not a proper noun and could confuse readers. Below the header there is even a reference to "Main Article: Natufian culture," which uses a lower case "c." Chronology[edit]

I have no background in ancient human studies or history, but 1.4 mya doesn't line up with the links to the fossils mentioned in the paragraph. The earliest date I saw was 790 kya, which is half as long ago. I don't know what else to say other than it's wrong//inconsistent & needs to be edited by someone more knowledgeable than myself. Dfcorrea00 (talk) 05:23, 15 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Dfcorrea00: The earliest site is Ubeidiya, dating to c. 1.5–1.4 mya. This is mentioned in the text although the linked article is inconsistent about the site's chronology (it's the article on the site that's wrong, not this one). – Joe (talk) 06:18, 15 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
AFAIK, recently Ubeidiya yielded a human fossil: The earliest Pleistocene record of a large-bodied hominin from the Levant supports two out-of-Africa dispersal events--Bolter21 (talk to me) 21:19, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
