Keeping computer on or off[edit]

What's the answer/reasoning behind leaving the computer on versus turning it on and off everytime you use it? I think the correct way to do it is to not turn the computer on and off very quickly, but to leave it on if you're going to use it soon, but to also turn it off during the night instead of letting it run and waste electricity. --165.230.46.155 14:48, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Internal power discharge[edit]

There should probably be some generalized note in here on the need to allow some discharge time for some devices when power cycling, to clear a memory state, let capacitors discharge, or whatever else it may be. can't say anything too specific as it is very device-dependent, but it's an important technical aspect of power cycling for many devices — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.131.152.2 (talk) 20:45, 22 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
