"Since 1 January 2010 the section from Varese to Porto Ceresio has been put out of service,[7] due to reconstruction works related with the new international line to Stabio, that will connect Varese with Como and Lugano via Mendrisio.[8]"

Not clear why the line is closed - since the new line goes elsewhere. Seems to suggest that line will reopen when work is complete - but judging by state of line - overhead cables have been removed - is this likely?

Yes, it is. The section between Varese and Arcisate is being completely rebuilt; after the works, the line will have a double track and partly run in an artificial tunnel.--FS Italia (talk) 10:10, 26 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
