Name of article[edit]

The demonym for of Afghanistan's people is Afghan. See the CfD of July 2007 in which the categories for people of Afghanistan nationality were decided to be called Afghan people. This was reinforced by the December 2007 poll on the proper demonym at Talk:Afghanistan#Poll?. --Bejnar (talk) 07:05, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually there are 3 denonyms in usage. The poll cannot decide to reject the other 2 denonyms according to Wiki guidelines:

A search for "afghanistani poetry" -wikipedia retrieves 39 links. A search for "afghan poetry" -wikipedia retrieves 9760 links. "Afghanistani poetry" occurs less than 1% of the time. Therefore it is extremely rare in use. Kingturtle (talk) 15:25, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The "Afghan language" means Pashto. This is supported by the American Heritage Dictionary:
Also Princeton's WordNet:
Thus, "Afghan poetry" is Pashto poetry.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Dupree3 (talkcontribs) 22:33, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • The point is not that use of the word "Afghanistani" is unrecorded. The point is that it is not the preferred usage. Preferred by whom? The majority of English speakers. --Bejnar (talk) 00:20, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • As a compromise. how would "Poetry of Afghanistan" suit as a title for this article? --Bejnar (talk) 00:33, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • The first point is only your POV. According to who is it "preferred"? If you claim it is preferred by most English speakers, that is your POV... unless you can provide a source to back that claim?
  • "Poetry of Afghanistan" is an OK title... but the problem is that "of" would mean that it belongs to Afghanistan and that is incorrect. Persian poetry and also Pashto poetry extend the borders of Afghanistan and neither belongs to this state. The only way I see solving this problem is using Afghanistani poetry. This was the original title of the article to begin with until you changed it without any consensus. Dupree3 (talk) 02:15, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Not a good idea. Afghanistan's Persian poetry is already integrated in Persian poetry and Persian literature, the Pashto poetry has its own article. This page should stay the way it is and inform the reader about the other articles. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.83.130.148 (talk) 02:40, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • I just noticed the Benjar has rewritten the page. Under these circumstances, the page should be renamed.
  • Either his article should be reverted back to the way it was. Or Poetry of/in/from Afghanistan is an acceptable compromise. Dupree3 (talk) 02:44, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
