Concerns over the 'association football' section[edit]

I added the two templates to the section of the article regarding 'association football' because they clearly only concern British events and are slanted towards the last few years. I also fear there may be a few too many mentions of unexceptional incidents in the article (and I swear I don't recall a pitch invasion after Hull v Man United last season though that may be because the trauma of hearing Phil Brown sing on the TV has caused my brain to erase the memories of that afternoon).

I can't say I have have many specific details to be honest but surely pitch invasions must have taken place outside England and Scotland mustn't they? I think this section would be massively improved if a few international examples were mentioned. In the meantime, I hope nobody minds if I remove some of the less notable unsourced examples. I agree with you and have made a further cull of some of the more obscure and unsourced examples, which reached a nadir with the use of a Conference South game as a supposedly "famous" pitch invasion! The ones I have pruned mainly related to lower division fixtures that were doubtless significant matches for the clubs concerned, but are not widely remembered elsewhere. Also, these generally seemed to be an excuse for fans to shoehorn in details of their favourite victories at which invasions also happened to occur, rather than where the pitch inasion itself was intrinsically notable or significant. We still have the problem of lack of non-UK examples, when these can be sourced then hopefully they can replace some of the more dubious ones remaining, such as 1967 European Cup final (significant fixture, much celebrated in Scottish media, but I don't remember hearing much if anything about a pitch invasion) or QPR v Crewe (sourced and reasonably relevant, but too obscure). Pitch vs field[edit]

The US section should really use "field" rather than "pitch". No American sport is played on a "pitch". Much as the basketball section uses the word "court", as is appropriate. Huw Powell (talk) 02:38, 21 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Grand Prix track invasions[edit]

Not sure if this deserves inclusion, but at the Australian Grand Prix at albert park, fans have been known to flood the track after the winner crosses the line. A dangerous practice. Small change to the American 'Field Storming' section...[edit]

Change so insignificant it's hardly worth mentioning,,,

The article says in the "Texas vs Texas Tech, 2008" portion that the fans stormed the field the second of three times after the extra point. It was actually after the replay ref said that Crabtree had stayed inbounds.

Article needs clean-up[edit]

As the title says. Please read WP:ISNOT for more info, specifically things like WP:NOTNEWSPAPER and WP:NOTINDISCRIMINATE. I don't think we need endless lists of pitch invasions that have taken place, half of which are not actually very "famous", slanted towards current events and taking up large chunks of the article as to make it almost unreadable. I think what we actually need is a description of what a pitch invasion is, how and why they generally happen, the laws and rules that apply to them in different parts of the world and for different sports. And possibly a section for each sport if there are significant differences, but not the endless lists that we have at the moment. I've been meaning to do the same myself for a while. Should I have the time, I'd be more than happy to pitch in. I've combed through some spurious additions in the past, but the problem is that another load are always put straight back in when someone's favourite team has one (it's particularly bad around May). Yeah, as I said my personal preference would be to do away with the lists and probably give just a few examples of the most famous pitch invasions. Games or incidents that are actually notable enough, such as the 2009 Upton Park riot are likely to have their own articles anyway, or could have one if somebody wished to create it. The sourcing also needs improving, from a quick bit of Googling it does look like an article that isn't easy to source but I will have a go at some point.Levelledout (talk) 18:18, 13 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
