Name[edit]

Please note that Philco was never referred to as the Philadelphia electric company. It was in fact the Philadelphia Storage Battery company.

Where's the remote?[edit]

This page claims Zenith did it first; McMahon, p.127, credits Philco with having one in 1939. Who got there first? TREKphiler ^{any time you're ready, Uhura} 15:28, 7 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

War time production?[edit]

I've seen quite a few ads from the WWII era from them depicting weapon systems that built parts for (e.g., Bazooka, etc.). It might be worth mentioning their transition to wartime manufacturing.--Surv1v4l1st ^{(Talk|Contribs)} 00:49, 7 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Other War time activities[edit]

As a former Philco Tech Rep I would like to see some mention of the hundreds of technicians & engineers that served along side our armed forces from WWII through the Korean war and probably on through Vietnam, the First Gulf War, Iraq, and Afganistan. During the Korean War Tech Reps (Philco, GE, and employees of many other companies) were targeted by the Chinese because they knew that Tech Reps were often the only people capable of keeping new equipment operating. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.121.62.139 (talk) 04:46, 17 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm adding to a decade-old comment by an anon here, but I've been there and done that. Vietnam, 1964-1972. It was before my time in VN by a decade or so and didn't involve Philco, but see the article on James B. McGovern Jr.. Air America was still involved in VN (and Laos) with a fleet of C-46s and other aircraft. Ah... memories. Please excuse the flouting of WP:TPG guidelines. Why bankruptcy?[edit]

So it's making TVs and computers, and appliances, getting big government contracts for NASA tracking stations - suddenly BANG! Bankruptcy? What's the story? Found a biography of Robert Noyce that details his time at Philco and gives some peripheral information, but what went wrong? --Wtshymanski (talk) 17:16, 29 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. I was reading "Mismarketing: Case Histories of Marketing Misfires" by Thomas L. Berg (Doubleday Anchor Books, 1971), and there's an entire chapter on Ford's acquisition of Philco, with no mention of bankruptcy.
