The date of birth given in the article looks like it is actually the date of his marriage (see source) It is very unlikely that he would have held the posts mentioned at such an early age if he really was born in 1942

MI6 operative[edit]

I've updated this article, based on a Guardian column today which describes him as the former Deputy Director of MI6[1]. One of the other sources in the article describes him as an MI6 operative[2], so that seems like good enough corroboration. Robofish (talk) 22:20, 26 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The wording at the moment seems to imply that he was Deputy Director after his retirement. Is there any evidence of that? If not, isn't it more likely that the Deputy Director would have had a cover position? The most obvious period for Hayman to be Deputy Director would be his time in Whitehall in the late 60s, but that would overlap with Maurice Oldfield's time as DC/SS.--Tcgriffin (talk) 23:14, 30 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
