Vandilism[edit]

A user has added a fake band member, and edited timeline. Rollback needed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 147.197.190.20 (talk) 20:40, 15 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Untitled[edit]

Can somebody fix my "citation needed" tags so that they look like they're supposed to? In addition, obviously, numerous citations are needed, most of which can probably be found from the band's MySpace blog, Sumerian, and various news sources in the metal community.

The genre issue[edit]

Keep djent in the genre, djent has become a phrase that everyone associates with Periphery. Even if you claim DJENT IS NOT A GENRE1!!11!, the fact that you know exactly what is being referred to means fairly clearly that it is. Read neologism if you are unable to understand this. Also see Quibus' comment below 147.9.172.76 (talk) 21:41, 21 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

What is "Nollycore" ? Never heard about this before, and I can't find anything about "Nollycore" on the internet ! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.152.129.53 (talk) 13:53, 17 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Back to the Djent issue, given that Misha himself (the one who coined the term djent) has said that djent is not a genre in itself, I think it is poor to have Djent under genre. Djent refers to the guitar tones in some of the songs, so it's reasonable to talk about it on the page, but not have Djent listed under genre. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.242.68.13 (talk) 08:58, 31 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Metalcore? Really people?[edit]

I get the fact that Spencer's vocals sound as though that their emo or something in the vicinity of a "-core" band, when in fact they're not. They're progressive rock/metal with touches of experimental rock with a djent style. Even in the genre page of their first album, which is their self-titled album: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Periphery_(album) -- there is nothing to do with emo or a "-core" band. On their EP - "Icarus Lives" - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Icarus_Lives_EP -- Periphery added only electronica to their style; not emo or core music. People can you stop adding this to the Wikipedia page? I get that his vocals are high, but the growls sound more metal than they do of a -core band. panicpack121 2:57, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

In addition to this: the genre is listed as Progressive metal and djent. Unless you have good sources, please don't change this. Quibus (talk) 08:17, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
They're metalcore. Get over it, please. The "growls" are typical of a post-hardcore band, as is the drumming, the riffing and especially the vocals. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Casus-luciferi (talkcontribs) 09:56, 13 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Jeeze, your grammar and spelling is atrocious. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.100.202.32 (talk) 20:24, 17 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The lot of you on both sides have made claims that are based upon nothing, grouping Metalcore with Emo and/or Post-hardcore is beyond farcical...as is removing it from metal. Metalcore is a sub genre of extreme metal and derives from Death metal and Thrash metal, Melodic Metalcore has even stronger ties to metal music with most bands taking heavy influence from Melodic Death metal. There is no such thing as having growls that are 'more metal' or 'more emo' than another band (Emotive Hardcore bands don't usually growl.....most of them shout psychotically.) in fact, the vocals in general are IRRELEVANT in reference to genre.

Periphery are in sort of a grey area.....they certainly play very similar music to many Deathcore and Melodic Metalcore bands sharing almost all the characteristics listed of BOTH genres but also have a focus on Poly-Rhythmic patterns and structures that isn't common of your typical Melodic metalcore band (in fact more so similar to Deathcore.) Either way you slice it, Periphery are an Extreme metal band and whether or not they in fact play Metalcore or Deathcore music doesn't matter....they're still playing a sound that DERIVED from one of the two, perhaps Djent is a sub genre....now we just have to look at what the parent genre is.....Melodic Metalcore or Deathcore? (It should be noted that they list several Metalcore and Deathcore bands as influences.....as well as bands like Meshuggah who definitely crossed over into that territory)

I also think the Progressive metal label should be removed as it's misleading, Periphery don't share many characteristics with bands like Uriah Heep, Rush or Lucifer's friend....nor later bands like Crimson Glory, Queensryche, Fates Warning or even Watchtower (Watchtower being a Progressive thrash metal band.) When people see the 'progressive metal' label.....this is the sound they SHOULD be expect, not the sound periphery are presenting.

If you want to keep the progressive label, at least throw Deathcore or Metalcore AFTER it....not straight 'Progressive metal'. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Technicalbrutaldeath (talkcontribs) 01:29, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A few things: Metalcore is NOT a subgenre of extreme metal. It is a subgenre of hardcore, and has nothing to do with death or thrash metal in the slightest. Vocals are relevant to the genre of the music, just as much as distorted guitars are. There is nothing even remotely related to deathcore or melodic death metal in their music, unless your definition of what melodeath sounds like comes from Reroute To Remain era In Flames, which was their most drastically metalcore album they ever released, and was in fact extremely influential to modern metalcore as a whole. There need not be anything but progressive metalcore and possibly djent, if you so please, in their genre tag. If you really want me to give you a riff-by-riff walkthrough of a Periphery song and compare it to metalcore, then melodeath, I can do that, but this is not as complex as you're making it out to be. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Casus-luciferi (talkcontribs) 08:35, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

References[edit]

I have added over 20 sources today to support the claims made in this article, while I'm pretty sure most, if not all of the sources meet Wikipedia guidelines, there may be some that do not. I ask that if you happen upon these that you please do not revert the changes! Rather, if you do, leave a message on this (or my) talk page, or perhaps find a new source that can support. -Jer Hit me up 22:17, 29 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

New album[edit]

As long as there is no source for the album title Periphery II (This Time It's Personal) (and there are claims this is just a joke), please keep it at 'untitled'. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Quibus (talkcontribs) 08:23, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Removed both TBA albums completely as per WP:Crystal — Quibus (talk) 10:21, 7 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Djent is not a genre[edit]

Because of the fact that (Personal attack removed) regularly assert that "djent" (which is a style of playing, not a genre) is a genre, I'd like to say here that if that goes in the genre field, I propose "blast beats" and "tremolo picking" should be added to every death metal band on this site as a genre. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.225.133.168 (talkcontribs)

You need to refrain from making personal attacks. -- DQ (ʞlɐʇ) 01:01, 19 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Associated acts section[edit]

Someone needs to give that a bit of an overhaul. As far as I'm aware, this section is usually only used for listing other bands who share/have shared members (one at the absolute least) of the band in the article. It's not for similar-sounding bands, touring partners, etc. I've taken a few obvious ones out, but I'm sure there's many more that can go. Demonofthefall (talk) 03:22, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sheet Music[edit]

This isn't a sheet music website. I think the PDF should be removed. The only useful information it could give to this Wiki page is the drum layout. Dojix (talk) 18:59, 5 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If it were a problem (and it was, WP:COPYVIO, WP:NOTREPOSITORY and WP:INDISCRIMINATE all apply), you could have removed it yourself or if the article were protected asked someone else to do so (assuming you didn't have editing privileges for the article). Mansoor's article[edit]

Misha's article is back, could someone update it? Thanks. --Λeternus (talk) 13:23, 8 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Does anybody have a proof on that?

Periphery II: Album name[edit]

Isn't the official name for the second album just "Periphery II"? I think "This time it's personal" is more of an extension to the actual name.

Biography pages for the rest of the members?[edit]

Just delete if you don't think this belongs here. I visited the Between The Buried And Me page and noticed all the current band members each have seperate biography pages on Wikipedia. Seeing as the popularity of Periphery is ever growing, and have far surpassed BTBAM in both song plays and monthly listeners on Spotify, is it not a little weird Sotelo, Holcomb and Bowen does not have pages? Are they not significant enough, yet BTBAM members are? Not asking if I should make the biography pages or anything, just merely making an observation.
