Pennsic being its own town

Can I get a reference to Pennsic being its own town? Lelek 15:12, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

I'd like that info as well. The "Find a Zip Code" page at www.usps.gov does not find any zip code for Pennsic, PA. Yes, there is a small mobile post office on site and we get a special cancellation, but I don't believe that Pennsic has it's own zip code.

It does not have its own zipcode, that's an urban legend brought on by the mobile post office. The zipcode for Pennsic is the same as the rest of Slippery Rock, PA:16057. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.118.120.30 (talk) 10:20, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Well, I was there, and helped build it. I linked to a set of photos I took of the construction, but apparently this was not considered "reliable."

WP:RS discusses Wikipedia criteria for reliable sources in general. If you could find a news article online discussing the fort, that would be ideal. Pictures of it aren't sufficient because, while I don't personally doubt you, there's nothing factually establishing that the pictures are of what you claim they are. Googling may be a good first step. I'm sorry I'm not being more helpful right now, but I quite literally just got back from a multi-hour road-trip and I have no brain. History

Contrary to popular myth, the Pennsic wars were not caused by Cariadoc challenging himself to a war and losing. The challenge for the Pennsic war was initially issued by King Irial and Queen Morna of the Middle, with the stated causes being both the ownership of the new group forming in Pittsburgh, the Debatable Lands, and an earnest desire to have fun and "engage in chivalric combat of the highest". The letter containing the challenge along with an arrow of war was carried by Duke Cariadoc, as a herald of King Irial, to King Rakkuri and Queen Maureen of the East who accepted the challenge, and broke the war arrow. The negotiations for the war, locating a suitable site, determining the rules for combat and scenarios for the battles, etc. dragged on long enough that by the time the war was actually held, neither Irial and Morna nor Rakkuri and Maureen were still on the thrones. The Midrealm was ruled by Andrew and Anne, and the East was ruled by Cariadoc and Diana, who had moved to the East during the negotiations. The board of directors ruled a few weeks before Pennsic I that since Pittsburgh was in the same state as an existing group, in Philadelphia, that it had to belong to the same kingdom. It was considered impossible to split a state between two kingdoms at that time. Thus, the Debatable Lands were assigned to the East Kingdom prior to Pennsic being fought, which rendered moot the initial reason for the war. Since the stated purpose of the war was to determine which kingdom got Pittsburgh and the Midrealm decisively won Pennsic I, it became popular mythology that "the loser got Pittsburgh."

Who are the belligerents?

The Pennsic War was originally between the Eastern Kingdom and the Mid-Realm, as stated. It coincided with an attempt by Pittsburgh to get a waiver from the rule (then) that entire states went into kingdoms: Philadelphia had the first canton in Pennsylvania, and naturally took the state into the Eastern Realm. Pittsburgh, where the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers join to form the Ohio, which flows westward to the Mississippi, felt itself more a mid-western city, and wanted to join the Mid-Realm. Roughly at the time of the First Pennsic War, the rule that entire states go into kingdoms was affirmed, and Pittsburgh was sentenced to remain in the Eastern Kingdom, leading to the tale that the casus belli was possession of Pittsburgh, with the loser getting it—false, but it makes SUCH a good story! I see that the rule against dividing states has been abandoned, and that western New York, western Pennsylvania, western Maryland, and West Virginia now compose the kingdom of Æthelmearc, the "Noble Borderland" between the Eastern Kingdom and the Mid-Realm. According to the Pennsic War website, Pennsic 46, a few months ago, was fought between the East/Mid/Ealdormere Alliance and the Æthelmearc/Northshield Alliance; the Eastern website does not mention the Pennsic War for 2018.
