Additional information[edit]

Including subsidiaries, this company has had over 5,800 worksers and over 350 land-based drilling rigs as of Feb. 2005.[1] This company SHOULD meet WP:CORP.

Subsidiaries include Patterson UTI Drilling Company LLC, Patterson UTI Drilling Canada Limited, Universal Pressure Pumping, Inc., and Universal Well Services, Inc.[2]

The company has had some negative publicity. On August 11, 2004, there was a fatality at one of the company's oil rig sites in Hinton, Oklahoma.

Between 2002 and February 2005 there were 11 deaths at company rig sites in Wyoming, Texas, and Oklahoma. OSHA cited the company with 17 safety violations with proposed penalties of $725,000.[3]

From 1998-2005, a high-level employee embezzled a total of over $77M from the company. That employee pled guilty to his crimes in 2006.[4]

This negative information should probably not be in the article unless it has a significant bearing on the company today or it had a significant bearing on the company for an extended period of its history.

Other bits of history that should be worked into the article, but in an abbreviated form:

In February 2001, Patterson Energy Inc., announced that it agreed to buy UTA Energy Corp. for stock valued at $1.34B, creating the second-largest American land-based drilling services contractor.[5] Did this merger actually go through under these terms? When?

In 2006, the company was number 43 on Fortune Magazine's list of 100 fastest-growing companies.[6]

In 2009, Patterson-UTI Energy was #841 on the Fortune 1000.[7] What was its ranking in other years? It would be best to just say "The company has been a Fortune 1000 company since year" or "... between year and year" rather than to list each year and its rank individually.

I hope this helps. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 02:22, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
