Merge proposal[edit]

I'm unsure if each of these symphonies should have separate articles. If they were merged into this article, this may become a very good article. --Pixelface (talk) 05:05, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Strong oppose per my rationale at Talk:List of symphonies by Joseph Haydn. Heimstern Läufer (talk) 05:58, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mannheim School influence?[edit]

I don't agree. The Mannheim School's heydey was 30 years prior to these works and Haydn wrote 81+ symphonies before these Paris works. A citation has been added for this statement, but I don't understand the claim of influence at all... especially a claim that goes in the lead.DavidRF (talk) 02:18, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • David, I bet you that's someone who misunderstood. The opening of 87 is certainly a clear reference to the Mannheim Roller - whoever added the edit probably extrapolated incorrectly to think that the reference was to the entire set. I'll revert.
