Hoax?[edit]

It's definitely not a hoax; I turned up a 1954 news article that attests to the 1893 charter. That said, if the company never progressed beyond charter stage, it's not notable and should be deleted anyway. Mackensen (talk) 11:32, 14 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I had sort of forgotten, but I previously found that there was a Tampa and Palmetto Beach Railroad Company late in the 19th century which was taken over by the Consumers Light and Power Company, which in turn was acquired by the Tampa Electric Company. I had added that information to TECO Line Streetcar System. See Tampa's Streetcar History. I think there has been confusion between "Palmetto Beach" and "Palm Beach". I will also note that the book Dan found was apparently published in 2016, and the reference to the Palm Beach Railway and Power Company might be based on this article. - Donald Albury 15:28, 14 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Here is a book (2014, but citing a newspaper from 1991), mentioning the "Tampa and Palmetto Beach Railway". This listing of streetcar companies in Florida includes the Tampa and Palmetto Beach line, but not a Palm Beach line. This historic resources survey states that the "Tampa Palmetto Beach Railway" started operations in 1894. Here, and here, in 1894, are notices of the incorporation of the "Tampa and Palmetto Beach Railway Company", promoted by R. W. Easley, W. H. Kendrick and Louis T. Kendrick. There are sources for the Tampa and Palmetto Beach Railway Company going back to 1894. I suggest that references to a Palm Beach Railway and Power Company in Tampa may a garbled version of the Tampa and Palmetto Beach Railway Company after it was taken over by the Consumers Light and Power Company. - Donald Albury 16:05, 14 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
