Dates[edit]

Pomare I was already regent when Captain Bligh was there in 1788. In fact, he became regent as soon as his son was born. As Bligh states in the Bounty Logbook, November 4, 1788, "I now find that Otoo or more properly Tynah, for that is his name since the sovereignty is devolved to his son, is still the greatest personage on this part of the Island. I shall now therefore for the future call him Tynah, the name of Otoo or Too, as it is differently spoken, being now the name of his eldest son who is between five and six years old, reigning under the direction of his Father, whose name always goes from him, as soon as he has a son." Unificaton[edit]

This aritlce is really dubious. I am reading into the history of Tahiti and it doesn't seem Pomare I was really the great unifying king that this article seems to speak of. It seems that the English just considered him King and supplied him with weapons to fend off the neighboring jealous chiefs who hated the English's preferential treatment toward him.
