Requested move 12 January 2017[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Not moved. Clear consensus that the Melkite Greek is not the primary topic.
There may be consensus for a merger of disambiguation pages (or even deletion of both), but since the other dab page was not listed here, this discussion can take no action on that proposal. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 20:38, 30 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Order of Saint NicholasOrder of Saint Nicholas (disambiguation) – To make room for the sole with the exact name Order of Saint Nicholas. Chicbyaccident (talk) 19:13, 12 January 2017 (UTC)--Relisting. -- Dane talk 23:10, 21 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Order of Saint Nicholas (Melkite Greek Catholic Eparchy of Newton)Order of Saint Nicholas – Since none other of that exact name seem to exist. Chicbyaccident (talk) 19:10, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

Procedural problem resolved
  • Procedural oppose There are two separate RMs, one at each end. Multi-article proposals should be combined. Timrollpickering 19:31, 12 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Resolved: I've merged the nominations and closed the redundant one.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  02:04, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Survey[edit]

  • Support second move, but just delete the disambiguation page: Per WP:TWODABS we do not use disambiguations pages, just hatnotes, when there are only two competing articles. Support the shortening move, per WP:CONCISE and WP:COMMONNAME and per WP:PRIMARY. The other item on the DAB page is itself another DAB page, so that can't qualify as the primary topic.
Note: I have repaired the messed up move stuff that went on earlier; the article with the long name had been mistakenly moved to the "(disambiguation)" title, which now properly redirects to the DAB page.

  • Oppose. Fine as is. The Melkite order is pretty obscure and not a primary topic by any means. -- Necrothesp (talk) 15:37, 16 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose and merge and redirect the DAB at Order of Saint Nicholas Thaumaturgus into this one as proposed elsewhere. We're a general encyclopedia, and this hierarchy of DABS may make sense to some specialists I guess, but it doesn't help the general reader one bit, pure and pointless overhead. Andrewa (talk) 15:23, 20 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose and merge the other disambig as Andrewa suggests. Dicklyon (talk) 02:58, 30 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Order of Saint Nicholas mess[edit]

(Moved from personal account's talk page)

I repaired it for you, and also merged the move nominations into a proper multi-page nomination. You don't need to ever do anything to "make way for the renaming". The entire purpose of WP:RM discussions is to determine by consensus whether there should be any such renaming to begin with. This took a fair amount of editorial time and effort to sort out (and it could have all just been procedurally shut down as too messy to deal with). I suggest participating as an observer and commenter in more RMs, reading the instructions at WP:RM carefully, and also reading those at Template:Rm, before nominating any more moves.  :-/  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  02:23, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the mistake. Thanks for the help. Chicbyaccident (talk) 16:22, 14 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This issue was touched on but not resolved during the now-closed move discussions.

  • Support. Only five articles in total, having two DAB pages is needless complication.
@Chicbyaccident, Timrollpickering, SMcCandlish, Necrothesp, Andrewa, and Dicklyon: Pinging contributors to those now-closed move discussions. Narky Blert (talk) 12:07, 14 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Seems a no-brainer to me. Thanks for the ping. Andrewa (talk) 05:33, 15 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Seems reasonable. -- Necrothesp (talk) 09:47, 16 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Definitely. Just make sure the longer name redirects to the short one, in case people search for the full name.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  01:20, 8 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
