A little note about this page and the entry[edit]

For those who are posting here, please keep in mind that this is simply the Wikipedia entry for OCTA, and is maintained by its users and/or fans. Some more limited information can be found at the OCTAWiki, but in the final analysis, since neither this nor OW are actually run by OCTA, you should really be contacting customer service for the official word on anything. --Dennis The TIger 20:00, 20 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OCTA's customer service line is great for finding out schedule information, but not much else. I'm still trying to find out about future plans for night owl service. Does anyone know if there is a transit advocacy group in Orange County? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.67.35.214 (talk) 03:21, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OCTAWiki[edit]

I'm starting a wiki specifically for OCTA, focusing mainly on the system's routes. Using MediaWiki as the base as well. Linking to it over here for now. Contributions would be greatly appreciated, but until it's a little more populated I'd prefer to keep the link over here.

--The URL for the wiki is dead! What happened?

Memory leak. It's a nuisance, not a crisis. Basically had to restart the server to clear out the buffers and such. It's been back, I just have to restart Apache periodically to clear out the crud and it's good as new. --Dennis The TIger 01:41, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ten years later, it's still gone. Is there any chance of bring it back? Does anything like this exist for OCTA? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 47.148.0.203 (talk) 16:01, 8 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Bus Rapid Transit, Beach Blvd?[edit]

Are there any plans for BRT on Beach Blvd? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.67.35.112 (talk) 05:45, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- After The Current three routes are created, OCTA will create others. Beach Blvd Will eventually be a BRAVO! line along with the 66, 70, 38, 42, and 50 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nabi2230 (talkcontribs) 15:29, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Do you know if OCTA plans to offer Night Owl service on Route 29 anytime soon? 72.67.35.97 (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added at 17:50, 3 February 2009 (UTC).[reply]
What's the current status of Bravo!? OCTA is currently talking about cutting service as much as 40% due to the current state budget crisis. How will this affect Bravo!? Cousert (talk)

Bicyles?[edit]

Does anyone know what happens if a third cyclist tries to board the bus?

If a third cyclist attempts to board a bus, he will be forced to wait for then next bus. This is not a big deal on the majo routes, but is a hassle on routes that operate with frequencies between 30-60 min. Sometimes, if there is another route nearby that will take you to your same destination, the driver will tell you where to go.
Almost. If it's the last bus for the day, the driver will typically allow the third cyclist on board with the bike, as long as the cyclist keeps control on the bike (IE, doesn't let it all over the aisle). Strictly speaking, the driver isn't really allowed to do this, but it's not so grevious a violation as (say) running hot or skipping stops.

Future Projects[edit]

Is the CenterLine dead? If so, how is this possible? Didn't Measure M provide funding for a light rail line?

The centerline is dead, and has been dead since spring 2005. See the article. However, the "Son of Centerline" is alive and well. OCTA is now going to spend $1.2B on a train system that must span two cities. Sounds like another boondoggle to me.
Do you have any more information about this "Son of Centerline" project? Links would be greatly appreciated.

What happened to the Rapid Bus projects announced a few years ago? They were supposed to run on the same lines as today's Night Owl buses.

Route 794 seems to be one of the first. See OCTAWiki for route information.
OCTAWiki is dead. Hasn't been updated in ages. The owner of it moved out of state. Are there any other forums for discussing OCTA? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.67.35.97 (talk) 07:04, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Will Route 29 ever get Night Owl service? If not, why not? It's one of the busiest routes in the system, almost as busy as Route 43.

...ask customer service?
Tried, several times. Nobody has an answer. I heard that Huntington Beach doesn't want it. Does anyone know if this is true?

Fair use rationale for Image:Orange County Transportation Authority logo.png[edit]

Image:Orange County Transportation Authority logo.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:57, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

2009 service cuts[edit]

OCTA is about to make major cuts in service, as much as 40% of current bus service will be eliminated by early 2010. The reason for this is the elimination of transit funding by the state. Someone with more information on this should update the main page to reflect the current situation.Cousert (talk)

Removed Cleanup Tag[edit]

I have removed the cleanup tag as it was rather dated (June 2007). If you believe that the page still warrants the tag, go ahead and re-add it, but be sure to describe in which ways you think the article should be improved. Thanks ~ Butros (Talk) 03:15, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

highway maintenance[edit]

hey the last time i checked octa also provided funding for highway and road repair. why is their no mention about this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.16.39.200 (talk) 08:16, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I can tell, it's covered under highway and road operations. However, if you feel there is more to add, feel free to contribute. Please remember to cite your sources. All the best, TorriTorri(Talk to me!) 17:59, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
