Page name[edit]

Dear friend Beland, you seem to have confused this a little further, because you've lost access (pun intended) to the principal page on open access in academic publishing, which is appropriately called "Open access"; Open Access publishing is one of the 2 major divisions, and self-archiving the other (or at least thats the names of the 2 long established WP articles on the divisions. I know it isn't logical, but that's the way all the books and articles use it.

If you want to do it differently, in order to avoid confusion, I think we'd need consensus of the editors. I can think of two possibilities:

Rename the page on open access in this sense in general to "Open Access in academic publishing" or Open access (academic publishing)--which I thing will jus tcontinue the problem, or
Rename that page to Open access movement. -- which I have not thought of until just now and might be fully satisfactory to everyone involved.

I am about to propose this on the real open access page, and see if there is consensus. I think there will be, but i would think it very wise to wait for it, and not try shifting the names around without it.

I will restore the other good clarifying edits you made to the page which got reverted.

Hi, I can't remember my wiki password, but my name is Chris Gutteridge and I'm lead programmer for the "EPrints" software and have been working for open access since before it was cool. My vote would be to rename the page to "Open Access Movement". Although Open Access is IMO really important, it's an ambigious term on wikipedia as other groups do use it for other things. (eg. the countryside thing). I would suggest the current page becomes disambiguation, but with the prominent link to the movement. Possibly as "Open Access Movement (for open access to scholarly materials) or something. OA covers things like datasets, not just publications. 152.78.69.148 12:19, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
