One of the Boys has sold 7 million copies worldwide according to MTV[edit]

"For Perry, the debut would easily best the chart arrival of her breakthrough 2008 effort One of the Boys, which debuted on the charts and peaked at #9 with 47,000 sales; it went on to sell more than one million copies in the U.S. and seven million worldwide. Perry is looking to both beat the sophomore slump and cement her status as one of the world’s pop icons." - MTV (Source: http://www.mtv.com/news/1646527/katy-perry-fantasia-look-to-unseat-eminem-on-charts/) Just read the article if it's reliable (I'm sure of that), can you upgrade 'One of the Boys' worldwide sales? Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ShaneFilaner (talkcontribs) 10:00, 28 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Done while The Independent (which was used before your comment) is quite viable, this link is even better since it specifically says worldwide, plus MTV specializes in music-related news. Snuggums (talk / edits) 14:26, 28 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: moved -- JHunterJ (talk) 17:11, 21 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

– Gets far more views than all the others combined.[1] Unreal7 (talk) 15:14, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support when easily the most viewed topic, I think it's pretty clear that people look for this album above all else when searching for the term. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 20:28, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose page views aren't everything - the combined long-term significance of the other entries should hold weight compared to a pop album. Keeping all disambiguated avoids problems with someone incorrectly linking to this album at primary when they mean to link to one of the many alternatives. I see no particular benefit, and several downsides, with this move. -- Netoholic @ 05:32, 15 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It's been 12 years. Unreal7 (talk) 09:25, 15 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
And other entries have been around longer. -- Netoholic @ 14:54, 15 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Entry age is irrelevant; being around longer doesn't necessarily mean something will end up being more prominent in the long run. I realize the same can be said for more recent releases, but none of the others seem to be nearly as prominent as this. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 15:12, 15 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Rather than try to calculate and argue about the totally subjective value of "more prominent" (not a WP:PRIMARYTOPIC criteria), let's at least say there are certainly multiple topics here using this title have long-term significance. This is justification enough to keep them disambiguated for clarity, as readers can already quite easily find the individual articles they are searching for. Moving this one to primary does not help that one bit... and in fact due to mislinks caused by it being at primary, could actually slow down readers. There is no discernible benefit to this move, and potential downside, so its best we don't. -- Netoholic @ 19:39, 15 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
In case it wasn't already clear, I was using "more prominent" as another way to say having more long-term significance, and I fail to see how the other topics have much (if any) of that compared to this. Also, it's the main thing that comes up in Google search, and had much more chart success than either of the other albums of the same name. Outside of music, the only subjects that even warrant articles were a couple of short-lived TV shows. How is all of that combined with page views vastly outnumbering all else not sufficient evidence of being a primary topic? SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 21:28, 15 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
With respects, your user page indicates that you have a very strong interest in music and celebrity topics, with a specific interest and specialization in Katy Perry. I think your personal interest in this topic area seems to be taking priority over a fair evaluation of the other topics - by downplaying their significance and inflating that of Perry's album. Personal bias is extremely hard to avoid, and in this case, I have no such strong interest in any of these topics, so I feel like my vote reflect a decently impartial view. -- Netoholic @ 01:51, 16 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
My interests are irrelevant to whether something is or isn't a primary topic. I know better than to use personal taste as a criteria or to let it skew my judgement. Regardless of whether you believe me, I can assure you that I wasn't trying to downplay/inflate anything. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 02:23, 16 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, overwhelmingly the most popular topic and so primary with respect to usage. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 13:10, 18 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
If moved, the redirects One of the Boys (album) and One of the Boys (song) should be targeted at the Katy Perry article. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 14:19, 18 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. When all are pop culture items, it's easy - just go with the supermajority, no need to argue about subjective long-term significance. This album was released in 2008 so there's no WP:RECENTISM bias; it has led the pageviews for a long time. -- King of ♠ 01:43, 19 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in One of the Boys[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of One of the Boys's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "rs":

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. Feel free to remove this comment after fixing the refs. AnomieBOT 09:08, 21 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
