On call is not Zero Hours[edit]

I think this is important to address. Working on call is not a zero hour contract. On call typically means you work your contracted hours, but you are paid to sacrifice the rest of your days in order to be available for your field. For example, I could work a 40 hour week contractually, but one week in six be on call. So, if I get a call at 3:45am on a Saturday morning, I could be expected to get dressed, and drive to work.

Zero hour contracts have their own page. They are NOT on-call shifts. Please discuss with me or I will separate the two. Sebhaque (talk) 00:54, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

– This is the primary topic for "on-call". The disambiguation should be moved to "On Call" per WP:DIFFCAPS. Therefore, these three pages should have their names shifted. ZXCVBNM (TALK) 15:02, 24 December 2019 (UTC) Relisting. Steel1943 (talk) 18:04, 6 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support. I fully agree with zxcvbnm. This is the proper usage of the term as publically known, rather than lesser-known TV programmes or songs. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sebhaque (talkcontribs) 02:02, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Sebhaque: That is a disagreement vote, you typed "oppose". Perhaps you meant to vote something else?ZXCVBNM (TALK) 14:17, 31 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    Agreed. I think Sebhaque's !vote should be interpreted as a "support".  — Amakuru (talk) 13:25, 2 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - this article (short though it is) covers more than just "shifts". Many on-call workers are not particularly on shifts, they just have a period of time outside of their normal working hours in which they are expected to respond to calls. As the nom says, the common name and the more WP:CONCISE version, for this is simply "on-call".  — Amakuru (talk) 13:24, 2 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
