Untitled[edit]

Grief, better do something about this before someone VfDs it. Nice canal walk down there, and I'd like to know where that railway station was too. Tarquin Binary 18:05, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That ford ...[edit]

The sources on the ford are confusing ...

  • some appear to say that the Roman Rd moved to Stratforde (Bow).
  • others imply that old ford was in use until Matilda fell in the water

I wrote and then changed it once today, but don't want to vacillate anymore. It makes sense that Stratforde made reference to a roman road approaching the bridge, but I have an alternative theory - there was no ford there, but the paved road referred to the causeway across the marsh. Anyone want to chip in? Anyone got a definitive reference that clears up my confusion? cheers Kbthompson 17:27, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, it's settled Stratforde didn't exist as a settlement until 1177; therefore it follows the bridge, and if a ford had been there, there would have been an earlier settlement, ergo Old Ford the main crossing point until after 1118 (date bridge completed). Move[edit]

I've just merged Old Ford (Middle-earth) into Minor places in Middle-earth, so now the main "Old Ford" article space is virtually free. if there's no other Old Fords in the world, I suppose it would be better to move the present article to the main namespace (with a hatnote linking to Middle-earth redirect). That's been done, there was also a request on the disambig page - only took a year! Kbthompson (talk) 09:41, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
