POV[edit]

Following the sources, this article seems rather pro-Holmes. Statements like "The trial was a farce" and "he was so cruelly whipped" come from James Taylor Holmes writing in 1915. I wonder if we could find a better source. Is this Holmes a relation, I wonder? StAnselm (talk) 02:24, 5 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

from John M. Barry, Roger Williams and The Creation of the American Soul (2012), p 356: "Holmes refused to accept [paying the fine] and he was brutally whipped, viciously enough to scar him for life."Sarnold17 (talk) 22:37, 23 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

As Holmes' progeny by one estimation amounted to over 20,000, I'd say there's a pretty good chance of that actually whether they know it or not. See Edwin S. Gaustad, "Baptist Piety: The Last Will and Testimony of Obadiah Holmes" (Tuscaloosa, AL: University of Alabama Press, 2005), 99. -a student writing a paper on Holmes

I am removing the POV tag. I found that the material brought into question actually came from a direct quote made by Dr. John Clarke, one of Holmes' companions in prison.Sarnold17 (talk) 20:23, 24 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
