Patronizing "we"[edit]

This section was marked NPOV by one person (who has no user page) with no discussion whatsoever in the Talk area.

Some minor research lead to the term "symbiotic pronoun" that covers the general use of the "patronizing we." A reference to it is here: [1] But this book is not a linguist book and the text implies that the author created this phrase.

I am willing to give this author her due and change the name of this usage of the first-person plural to "symbiotic we" or "symbiotic pronoun." Is there an official linguists term for this? William Alan Ritch (talk) 23:08, 13 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • "Symbiotic we" is not a general term for this usage. It would be just as accurate to call it the "idiot we". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.19.204.240 (talk) 03:10, 17 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
