Discussion[edit]

Surely these subdivisions were created by the Local Government (Boundaries) Act (Northern Ireland) 1971, not the Northern Ireland Constitution Act 1973? Owain (talk) 19:09, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You're quite right. I think the NI constitution act imposed direct rule abolishing the Parliament of Northern Ireland and the Governor of Northern Ireland Lozleader 19:33, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh and the Local Government (Northern Ireland) Act 1972 actually created the councils that had been defined by the boundaries Act. They came into existence on October 1, 1973, which would be after the constitution act of course, but i don't think it has anything to do with them Lozleader 19:46, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

So the Constitution Act set up the first NI Executive and assembly, as well as abolishing the NI parliament and governor. Nothing to do with local government. Lozleader 19:46, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is quite correct - in fact reform of local government in NI had already been agreed by the Stormont government before the UK government abolished it. David | Talk 19:47, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have created Local Government Boundaries Act (Northern Ireland) 1971 and put the material there Lozleader 20:18, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
