Was copyvio/puff[edit]

This article was expanded from its former one-line stub, but most of the new edits are boosterisms and not facts. Corvus cornix 00:07, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It appears that most of the text, excepting the first few lines, was lifted directly from the school's website. Mary quite contrary 20:27, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed, there is verbatim copying from the school website. As a copyright violation, I've removed that text. -- Whpq 15:09, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
For reference, teh text was copied from here -- Whpq 15:09, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've re-removed them. Rich Farmbrough, 16:49 15 March 2007 (GMT).

Oldest School?[edit]

Considering that the web site for the school says, "North Quincy High School opened first as North Junior High School in 1926", I've removed the line that says "North Quincy is one of the oldest schools in the United States.", since there are bound to be schools that go back hundreds of years. Possible Chinese names[edit]

From my understanding QPS and the school have *not* posted an official Chinese name. I will list possible translations of the name made by third parties. Knowing these is useful if you wish to translate content about this school into Chinese. Many of the students are children of immigrants from China.

Found the official Chinese translation:

Yakoo[edit]

The Yakoo mascot File:Yakoo50.PNG and "Red Raiders" has disappeared from the school's web pages within the past year per Google search. It can be found in the older archives. The logo now used is File:North Quincy High School NQRaiders Logo.png. and "NQ Raiders" I have not found any article regarding the demise of Yakoo. Jim1138 (talk) 11:03, 20 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

"Mr. Yakoo" was officially retired in 2008. Adam Sennott (June 18, 2015). "School Committee decides to forgo logo". The Patriot Ledger. Retrieved 20 October 2018. Should the NQRaiders logo be used? Jim1138 (talk) 20:29, 20 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Ravenswing, BimmerThree, JC7V7DC5768, Gab4gab, WhisperToMe, and Cornellrockey: Pinging recent editors. Yakoo appears to be out of the picture. See above. I should add that the logo above is used for the sport's teams on the school's website. Yakoo does appear on the hockey Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/northquincy.hockey This is not my cup of tea. I'm staying out of this. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 21:02, 20 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • What should be your cup of tea is to read the cites you claim support your position. The one you claim ditched Yakoo in 2008 is about Watertown High School rejecting the school's and student body's unofficial use of the NQHS logo. There are a couple cites from this year referencing that the School Committee planned to discuss Yakoo, but nothing more than that. As I said in one edit summary, actually replacing the logo would be a heavily publicized thing for which there'd likely be a half dozen solid cites, not complete and utter silence. And that the school's website is using a wordmark to head up athletics press release articles doesn't mean anything; all manner of teams, amateur and professional, employ wordmarks and alternate logos for the same thing.

In the end, this is a simple choice: either come up with a solid cite that the logo/mascot has been officially replaced (and by NQHS, not by Watertown, East Oshkosh or Timbuktu High), or let this go. Ravenswing 22:18, 20 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

As long as this particular school currently uses the same logo/mascot, we keep using it in the infobox.

In the events logos do get replaced (it seems not to have happened for this school), I think we, in the infobox, use the most current logo and insignia, as the school is still in operation. However we can also have the former insignia in the article itself and use the sourced commentary to accompany it. WhisperToMe (talk) 05:23, 21 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It has officially been changed, reflected in my revision. Abovfold (talk) 05:31, 15 November 2020 (UTC) I changed the infobox since they officially made the change. I'll turn it into a vector if I find the time in order to get rid of the white background, but if someone else has the skills go for it. I also added a before and after comparison in the controversy section to illustrate the changeAbovfold (talk) 05:44, 15 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
